Official Terrorist Bombing and Other Acts of Inhumanity Thread

Today, in Lahore, Pakistan, hundreds of victims celebrating Easter, mainly women and children. Current reports are at least 60 dead. This of course on the heels of the Belgium bombings earlier this week. It seems that, very tragically, an official thread on terrorist bombings is called for. As we seem to focus on Euro events more my hopes are that a dedicated bombing thread will encourage more reflection/talk on bombings like today.

What could make someone focus such an attack on women and children? frown.gif

Pakistan Taliban splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar told local and Western media it was behind the attack.
"We claim responsibility for the attack on Christians as they were celebrating Easter," spokesperson Ehansullah Ehsan told Pakistan's Express Tribune.

As someone said matter-of-factly on NPR the other day, terrorism is caused by alienation. What we should be asking is, what can Pakistan do to make Muslims feel more at home?

The person that was arrested and suspected as being the third Belgium bomber has been released due to lack of evidence.

Boko Haram burns 86 children alive.

But Christians in America are refusing to bake gay wedding cakes RIGHT NOW so let's keep things in perspective.

Yikes, I think this thread is going to have some very depressing content and some rather regrettable posts.

Of course, maybe if after every terrorist attack Westerners weren't lectured on how bigoted they are towards Islam some of that steam wouldn't build up.

I can already see I need to edit the thread title.

Abu Sayyaf clashes with army, decapitates four soldiers.

It's USA's fault and their foreign policy. It's important to say in moments like this that it has nothing to do with Islam. Islam is a religion of peace. Abu-sayyaf are no true muslims.

A university professor has been hacked to death in Bangladesh, in an attack police say is similar to killings of secular bloggers and atheists by suspected Islamist extremists.
AFM Rezaul Karim Siddique, 58, was a professor of English at Rajshahi University in the country's north-west.
He was attacked with machetes as he left home to go to work.
So-called Islamic State militants say they killed him for "calling to atheism" in Bangladesh.
The claim was made by IS-linked Amaq Agency, cited by US-based SITE Intelligence Group which monitors jihadist groups.
However, Siddique's colleagues earlier said that he had not written anything controversial and was not an atheist, unlike previous victims.

Let this article represent all victims of this particular atrocity. Reporting when it's just a single person, or maybe two, is spotty but I think this group of victims deserves to be noted.

This also reminds me of something that happened in the 1990s that I witnessed personally. A U of M anthropology prof was giving a lecture at the Dearborn campus. He happened to be first generation Palestinian. The topic of the lecture was evolution. A group of Muslim young men entered and shouted him down, chanting "Atheist! Atheist!" There were also comments of knowing where he lived and that Allah would mete out punishment to him.

Bloggers deserve to die, irregardless of religious persuasion.

First terrorist attack in Armenia since the 90's. 2 dead and 8 injured. Likely related to the escalated tensions since the Nagorno-Karabagh fighting.
