I ended up with Paul Goerg Blanc de Blancs. It was very good at $27 a bottle.

We enjoyed the old standby Veuve Cliquot. We also tried Piper Heidsieck Blue Top NV which I also enjoyed for $27.99

A few others I have enjoyed lately are Paul Laurent NV champagne and I also picked up Gloria Ferrer blanc de Noirs. I'm hoping my wife will want to enjoy that tonight for her birthday.

We opened a Schramsberg Blanc de Noir. It was about $36 and it was perhaps the best champagne I have had under $100. Much better than VC. It will now be my go-to better champagne. Especially since I found it for $26 at Trader Joe's.

Out of curiosity and after reading a few positive reviews I tried a bottle of Schramsberg Blanc de Noir.
It was one-note champagne, sweet was the note. Although not completely horrible this champagne is not to my taste. It does not have any complexity nor pleasant aftertaste like Roederer Rose . Very little if any yeastiness, mostly in a nose. Overall is a very "blah" drink. Something needs to be said about packaging; bottle is completely clear glass and looks absolutely unappetizing.
Gruet Blanc de Noir is much better champagne at this price range.
