So I am new to the world of bow ties and have recently acquired a classic grosgrain thistle bow tie to wear with my tuxedo. I did some research online and found that the classic height for thistle bow tie is 2.5". I also found some source that says 2" tall thistle bow ties are still acceptable.
I went ahead and bought a 2.5" (height) x 4.5" (width).
This may be my lack of experience with bow ties but the 2.5" thistle appears a bit too bulky for my taste. Below are two photos for your reference. I am 5'10" with somewhat of a long face. (I threw on an old white sports shirt and navy jacket for reference only so no judgement please!)
I have the option to acquire a 2" (height) x 4.75" (width) thistle bow tie to replace the current one. I would appreciate your opinion whether I should get the slimmer one or stick with the current bow tie. Do you believe the 2" thistle would compliment my face better? Also, would it retain the same level of classic look/formality?
