I could have gotten prints from famous photographers a while back for $1200; and then add in the fact, that these are likely digital prints, which whether it's my own prejudice, I can't see requiring the same amount of work to print as a darkroom print.

I met Scott during Fashion Week at the Z Zegna show. He was incredibly nice and even snapped a pic of me (didn't quite make it on his site though). I watched him cruise around the room taking pictures and he never seemed to bother anyone or be rude.

That being said, I wouldn't drop that amount of cash on one of his pictures. I hope he raises some money though.

Yes, he did tell me. At that time the price was less that $500.

I like what Scott has done and wish him all the best. He was innovative in establishing his site and consistently delivers an interesting view of fashion. Whether his photos will sell at those prices, I don't know. But I sure see a lot of people with a lot less going for them than Scott trying to charge a LOT more for their work.

^+1

I'm sure the gallerist is calling the shots in regards to pricing the work, whether or not they sell, or garner any critical response is another story. Kudos to him for starting the site.

$1200 isn't cheap but it isn't astronomical either for a print by a high-profile photographer. I think his stuff is actually very good if you evaluate it as "pictures to use for analysing clothes". It's technically competent, describes the clothing well and if you count his eye for subjects as a talent, then it has artistic merit as well.

In fact, I'd probably call it "Clothing Portraiture".

I recall one of his first posts on AAAC where he was attacked as a racist and the thread had to be locked. Those were the the days.........

Things have become too PC when you can't show reality on the street!

?!

I recall when he used to post here and got a bunch of traffic starting up his site. Now he doesn't even link to us.

^Yes, he really used AAAC and SF to jumpstart the site. He started a new thread with a pic pretty much every day then.

It was his commentary that some found objectionable, not the photo per se.

Either he didn't like some of the opinions about his subjects then, or he doesn't have much love for SF and AAAC anymore.

I try that too, but my site links to the styleforum. The sartorialist has certainly been an inspiration for me, and I always enjoy his site. Of course, www.stylites.net is more of an anthropological study than an aesthetic one, due to my subjects and my beginner photography skills. Here in Beijing, I don't know that I have ever seen someone who would qualify as a sartorialist, but maybe YFYF will come through at some point and change that. Hmmm...I could pay my rent on my courtyard for four months on what he will get for a print.
