Looks very slick, especially with the blue dial. Piss about Omar does not.

I still like the previous chrono version. But I am a notorious pervert.

I thought this image came out fairly well for an iphone shot taken and edited at the water park with the kids last week.

Seamaster pre-coaxial, it was my first mechanical watch. I've owned other divers (Sub & SD) since purchasing this in 2001 but I have a soft spot for it as it was the watch that started the hobby. Also, my daughter claimed it when she was 5 or so due to the sea monster on the case back.

I'm not a fan of make-believe-car-parts novelty watches.

Haha...the Belligero smack-down never gets old.

" from a guy who was involved with the higher end of AP's limited edition production"

So, that's the same guy responsible for AP's transition from big three design pioneer to candy-shop purveyor of brightly-coloured, celebrity-endorsed, gimmicky tat?  I'm not sure that makes him the heir apparent to the creator of the Jumbo and the Nautilus.  Maybe just the man who mated haute horlogerie with hip hop.  I think it makes him the heir to the creator of TW Steel.

And a limited edition that is only limited for now but then won't be.  I wonder if he's just deliberately taking the piss?  I'd love it if this was a hoax at the expense of the watch industry.  Alas, I suspect the joke is on the buyer.

Bah, I've had a tough day.  Sorry. :)

Anyone seen the Hodinkee article on Gorilla watches? Looks good!

It's obviously not a daily wearer, but as an FU watch for the weekend, I'm oddly intrigued.

Looks like Eric from 10 past 10 owns one and gave them a solid review. Better execution than say, the Bamford iteration recently profiled on Hodinkee. I'd have to fill a lot of other wants on my list before I got to one of these, but I can see the appeal. Price isn't that bad.

So here are some thoughts on my Reverso Grande Date after a weekend of wear.

400

I was in the market for either a vintage tool watch or something gold, perhaps dressy. I'd narrowed it down to a Pepsi GMT or a CPCP Tortue in rose gold. Pepsis are easy to come by. The Tortue less so, particularly with box and papers. I was about to pull the trigger on a Pepsi when I had one last look through some of my favourite websites and the Reverso popped up.

I've already got a steel Grande Taille, which I love and won't part with. But for a while I had liked the idea of a rose gold Reverso with some complications. This one looked pretty mint and was at a decent price, so I couldn't resist. The Pepsi can wait.

The Case

First impressions are that it is heavy, and of course much thicker than a basic GT, presumably partly due to the double barrels that power the eight day movement. It's a real lump of gold. It sits larger on the wrist than the GT but it doesn't look too big, and I have quickly gotten used to it. The rose gold has a beautiful hue to it, and the Reverso case is of course a real work of art. It doesn't look at all ostentatious.

The Dial

This is great. There's loads going on but it doesn't look cluttered. The seconds dial and the power reserve indicator are very nicely countersunk, with the power reserve hand curved at the tip, which is a nice touch. The Lange-esque date is double digits. There's some nice, simple guilloche on the face, same as the GT, and I think anything more would have been too much. If I had one minor comment it's that I would have made the hour and minute hands a little thicker, but it's no big deal. Overall it is very legible and a pleasure to look at.

The Movement

400

There's a lovely open case back showing off the movement. As is often the case, there's a lot of bridgework so you can't see everything, but to my untrained eye there is plenty to keep you interested and it looks very nicely executed.

The Purchase

I bought this from Watch Club in Mayfair. I have to say they were a real pleasure to deal with and I would buy from them again. The owner, Danny, was knowledgeable and happy to chat about different watches. They kindly let me try on a lovely Royal Oak Perp Cal which I had no intention of buying but wanted to take a look at. Maybe next time...

In Summary

I couldn't be happier with this. It wears really well, looks stunning and has some interesting technical features.

The rose gold has a beautiful hue to it,

^^Fully agree, Dachsund^^

I was always more a fan of yellow gold, and would shy away from anything too red / copper-y.... but I think Jaeger got it bang-on, with just the perfect amount of warmth.

Enjoy the honeymoon :slayer:

Also, inspired by patrick_b's post, here's a recent 2254.50 pic (on a Phoenix "admiralty grey" NATO strap).
