My hard to picture watches.. GP has a curved case, reflects every single beam of light.. RL comes out always muted than real life.. Regardless, here they are..

I'm also looking for a cheap, chunky diver,on a bracelet. Preferably big. And blue.

I did propose a Squale in the other thread smile.gif

Of course, Seiko has big blue stuff, right?

Yeah, just spreading the question around. That Squale looked good, but a bit nearer the 1k PMW threshold than I was looking for.

@alpyigit those two are both outstanding.

For anyone in NY, there are some great deals at the Chopard sale at Soiffer Haskin. You have about 2.5 hours left.

But you know what the real question is: which one of the 5970's is Frilly getting?

Seen a couple of Bentaygas around London. What do you think of it?

No doubt the best Touareg yet in specs, but what a truly awful name. What were they thinking?

Anyway. Watches. Let's leave the dick measuring for the car thread?

Cheap watches in fact, and a simple but controversial question: is a simple ETA movement worth the premium over a Miyota,in a poor man's watch?

Yes, there is another thread specifically on PMWs but I want to know how the big boys think about brand Swiss in standard movements.

Have at it!

^ Very unique IMHO. Behind the wheel you forget you are driving a SUV. mainly because of the twin-turbo W12.

Dunno if I'm on the big boy scale here, but I confess I'd take ETA over Miyota if the price was within shouting distance. Probably more to the fact it's a steady workhorse and every watch repair shop can fix it, probably has parts in store. However, beyond €/$1k, the watch really has to have other points of interest than standard ETA/Miyota. The fact that lots of 3-5k€ watches have 7750 / base ETA plus some minor custom tweak also somewhat rubs me the wrong way. Watch prices are never rational decision making points but at that range you really want already something individual.

I've probably lost count but I'd think there was one material he didn't have?

You could be right, I think it was just the yellow gold and platinum. What a loser. (@no frills)

Anyway, back to ETA vs X: I think the question is more like whether it's worth paying 900-1500 for a base ETA over 3-500 for Miyota, if everything else is equal.

Emotionally, I'm quite drawn to the reliable universality of ETA, and that its humble standard is trusted by many much more expensive makers. But I wonder, do they also choose it more because of the consistent "Swiss made" brand?

Ahahaha @mimo  @kimmo  - hey your handles rhyme!

Been exchanging messages with @Belligero of late and met up with @Dino944  for lunch recently.  My attentions have been diverted somewhat from horology to photography, so if I'm targeting anything it is likely to be the new M to be announced by Leica (maybe) in Photokina in a couple of weeks.

Obsessing over other hobbies is clearly a common facet of watch lovers. My latest weird hobby kop:
