Nah, not picking them up .... yet...
I"ll wait to see what the sale coming up will look like. Just curious as to why there was a different name.
It's not exactly the same. The Charles Street is a variation of the Cornwallis that AE makes for Harry Rosen stores in Canada. It has a poron insole, tap sole, and combination heel. Here's the link to the HR website that shows more details and photos:
Which is all the more reason why they should be going back to the old piping, which looked perfectly fine despite whatever production volume issues may be at hand.
And, as others have pointed out, the disconnect between what Paul has said about trying to play to the "casual" fans and the actual usage patterns of the new piping (heavily used on more formal shoes, notably absent from casual styles) is curious.
The above is how I feel. If the AE shoes were finished like the shoes in @peppercorn78's post, I'd have no complaints. If they can't (and to be clear, it is understandable why they can't), then they (AE) shouldn't half-ass it. Particularly on what is by all accounts a "premium" line, sold at a premium price point.
Moreover, in Paul's own words they're spending more to do it the new way. They're not getting a good return on that.
As to the price gap, at current exchange rates, the 440€ Vass are just over $3 LESS than the retail price on the Independence line (not including shipping).
Hope you'll forgive me Peppercorn, but as long as your Natty Dundee's are cool with it, so am I.
Ebay selling tip for July: Never try to sell a pair of shoes that cost more to ship than the price of the shoe. Price $12.97 (down from $29.99) and shipping is $18. The seller of this pair of AE Mapletons listed "distressed leather" as a selling point and insists these "well worn" shoes have "plenty of life left in them." Unfortunately, the best part of the shoes are the trees and they do not come with the sale.
Wow, those are beat to hell.
I also notice ebay sellers occasionally listing the wrong size and providing photos that show it is not the same width as advertised.
Saw the Conjuring 2 tonight -- pretty decent scary movie.
I agree with you. I meant to say that maybe the rogue hasn't been selling as well as they would like, which is why they closed out the black and walnut already.
Maybe they were planning to close out chili at some point soon too and based on the recent discussion they figured now would be a good time, that people might jump on it at that price point. But maybe not, I'm just speculating. If they do a limited time navy Rogue then I think it's safe to say they are influenced!
