I usually condition the inside and outside of shoes when new, outside after that. That said, apply to the squeaky parts, wherever they be.

Interesting lineup they have coming out so far - this was my take.

Academy - I came to the conclusion I just don't get what they were going for. I thought they were replacing the Leeds but the 2.0 is still around so this is like a casual version (?). Double butyl sounds good. Will have to check this out in person. I tried the original Leeds multiple times - fit great, loved the heavy feel, they just looked incredibly plain. The Kenilworth didn't fit as well but just looks better.

Oak St - I honestly can't believe they expanded this one. The original two were very nice, I never got into them. I bet they get clearanced. Cxl is always great but for anyone that hasn't tried it, kudu is outstanding. I didn't see that they used the red danite on this before. That moves them into my category of not buy. Natural welt is one thing, but red danite can create a pretty harsh contrast. If you ever look at the 1776 in person, they did a beautiful job - the red danite is really integrated into the design. Big mistake here. I found it weird you guys were so hesitant to recommend black welt - that would have been way better. I wonder if they'll get rid of the overlord now.

St Higgins - after seeing this in person, I have to say these came out really well. Definitely casual looking through. 1757 was a good choice.

St John - As a fan of black monks, I could never get into the black Franciscan and the Mora is too wide, so I want to try this at some point. Lots going on, but look good.

Shelton - these looked really good in person. The 511 on the original was really tough for a balmoral, so this is an improvement (plus the 201 is more sleek).

Neumok 2.0 - I see they haven't listed it yet, but I know its danite this time, hopefully not red.

My only concern about CXL shoes in general is the amount of stretch that occurs after break-in.  It stretches so much more than calf.  A nice fitting boot can become very sloppy with much less support down the road.  Otherwise a beautiful leather.

As did I yesterday. A nice blue for 199. Still inside the box.

(EDIT - I don't know why the above happened, and can't seem to get a clear window or quote to fix it. This site is really flaky and clumsy sometimes...)

As far as the Academy, I think it is pretty clear that it is designed from the ground up to be a casual derby instead of relying on leather choice to bring it there:

Much sleeker and less formal lines, slimmer toe, four-eyelet, etc.  Add the natural welt/edge and the leather choices and it is a whole different feel to me (and very attractive to me if I hadn't just bought the Truman Marrone horsehide derby).  I'd guess the pattern gives them easier clicking/construction/manufacturability too...

For the Oak Street - I notice you can get a custom sole on the leather options but not the Kudu models.  ???.  I'm not a fan of Dainite - I found it less comfortable than Commando and *much* prefer leather.  Not generally a fan of red soles, either...

Higgins Mill - ditto re: Dainite - didn't notice that there was no custom-sole option there... frown.gif

That wasn't my experience with my Rush Streets, nor have my Alden Indys done much other than loose grain in the ankle area (would bother me on the toe, but 100% fine for me on the ankle). It seems to me AE's clicking is outstanding when it comes to that kind of thing.

I'm a fan of CXL these days, and really glad to see AE going toward Natural CXL vs. the Golden Brown color.

My $0.02

Did anyone notice the clearance is loaded with rialtos with a price increase from 127 to 237? Also increase to the university? What's up with that?

@Neo1 from the context of people who need to dress formally, you're right in saying that the new styles make little sense. For those of us who wear chinos 95% of the time, these more casual takes are quite welcome. I'm not sure if I'll get one of the new Oak Streets, but the Academy would work well for me.

You might be able to do it in-store/call the order in. Before Dainite was listed on the website as a custom sole option the SAs could order it for the standard sole change charge.

I love them.  And at $199 for a CXL boot, they are an amazing bargain.
