I misunderstood -- I thought he was suggesting that there were different colors of country grain.  It would be awesome if there were!

How much do AE footbeds actually change?

I've been carpet-wearing a pair of blue neumoks (firsts) and they are finally feeling pretty good. Except, on my right foot I can feel the "transition" where the footbed starts to slope down for the pinky-side ball. I feel it on the outside edge of my foot. The left feels great.

Can I expect that edge of the footbed to compress with the outside edge of my foot once I wear them on hard surfaces? Or am I likely to always feel that ridge/lump?

Both are in 8 D   (these are both brand new)

if it were me, I would keep the one that fit better- the piping doesn't bother me either way, personally. That said, I like the toe shape on the new one better- it looks sleeker (could just be the angle of the photo though)

Anyway, gave me an excuse to get the rest of my wing tips out of the closet for a quick family pic.

Congrats on the Chesters.

Fast forward to now, and 11 pairs (+2 incoming...) of AE's later. Last year I was able to get the McClain in walnut on extreme discount, and though I love that shoe, I still wanted a McAllister. I also discovered in the past couple years (as I've grown to know and love AE) that bourbon is one of my favorite colors they've ever done. The point to all of this is that this shoe is somewhat of a grail for me.

I just received my bourbon McAllisters- holy crap this is a gorgeous shoe (it looks almost like wood):

Interestingly enough, these are an entirely different color than my bourbon Mora's. Side by side under fluorescent lighting:

These were the ones purchased off AE's eBay store- they're firsts, for those interested. Best not entirely sober/scotch induced purchase EVER.

by any chance are you the same size in the mora as you are in the McAllisters?

Purely subjective opinions on pairing:

I have these and love 'em, the butter-soft suede is super comfortable. Keep in mind, though they are 100% casual, not flexible on the formality scale--bal notwithstanding I think of them more as a high-end sneaker than casual dress. As far as matching pants, they are ideal with khakis which pick up the welt (and in general tan/grey is an ideal pairing IMO). Next I'd pair with jeans, blue or olive chinos work but I steer clear of grays--I think light/mid grays are too "bootie" and going darker ups the formality to clash level.

For belts, I can't envision wearing anything in that shade of gray, it's a light bulb around a waist I'd rather not advertise. I'd reach for something something in walnut with perts (such as Manistee, etc.) which would also pick up the welt nicely. Depending on pant/shirt, when feeling more adventurous I like the Hampton Ave. in blue with its tan edges--it's textured but not in a match-matchy way with suede and contrasty enough to look like a deliberate choice rather than I'd grabbed the first belt off the rack. (Beware the stone version of the Hampton Ave., though--on the website it may look like it ,ight match but in real life it's much browner than grey).

Of course shoes this casual pair nicely with an untucked henley or tee, in which case the belt is irrelevant :-)

It's not just you, the new one does look a little sleeker.  The color is slightly better on the old one, but not a huge difference.  I'm leaning towards returning the new one, but I might just keep it in storage for a while.       I don't really notice the new piping when wearing them, but it just looks bad when I take them off.

I think those patent leather ones are so cool!  I wish I had grabbed them!

The Neumoks do change.  I have a blue, acorn Hilfire, Red and Blue/white custom.  Each of them wears differently but wearing them I have found them to soften and the footbed to change.  The only issue I had is one of my pair had to go back because it had a large lump that never went away.

Thoughts IRL? (Exchange Square on left, Hopkinspn on right)

Maybe it's a silly question but what is the difference in the Park and the Hopkinson?  Personally I like the look of the exchange.  I like the squarer toe, it's unique.

The Hop has much softer leather, lamb skin lining and is overall considered a major upgrade in quality.  It also has the newer piping, which looks okay on this model (to me anyway).   Most people report saying the Hopkinson is the most comfortable shoe they've ever worn.   But perhaps most importantly, it has extra room in the arch for high instep people.

I think the Exchange looks good, but I prefer the look of the Park Ave and Hopkinson.

What is everyone getting?  Anything?  I picked up some Black Rogues.  They arrived and not too bad actually a few minor imperfections but for $157 who's complaining?

Does Allen Edmonds have an official ebay page? I saw an AE account on ebay that said in the description "Welcome to the official Allen Edmonds Corporation eBay store. Take advantage of tremendous savings on discontinued styles and closeouts." Just curious...
