Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread 2016 - News, Pictures, Sizing, Accessories, Clothing, etc - Page 524

Chukka week continues...

With slight chance of rain and the need to dress up for a couple of meetings, I went with Bleecker in Bob's chili. These have been absolute workhorses over the past few years (once I got over the puckering on the vamp). These are likely my most versatile pair of AEs - and they come in super handy on overnight work trips where I only take/wear (gasp!) one pair of shoes.

The left shoe has bowing and the right one does not.  Like Naspratt, my trousers will cover this flaw as well and you'll only see it if I'm sitting down with my feet flat on the floor.
I don't like the left shoe bowing, but I love the Shell PAs for 399.
If they're 10.5D, this is an atrocity you shouldn't have to worry about. Send them straight to me and I'll get it sorted out for you.

Honestly, unless it's uncomfortable or extreme, I accept it as an unfortunate side effect of the variability of my differently-sized feet. I would wager your left foot is wider, as it occurs on my wider (and shorter, darn it, sometimes leading to excessive vamp volume) right foot.

Shell for $399 can make me overlook this atrocity.  I guess I can't always expect perfection from the Shoebank.  Sometimes it's close, but not this time.

But again, for $399 that's OK.

Thanks for the advice.

I know you guys have already responded, but I figured a pic may help.

I got lucky with no bowing on my Strands, since half my firsts on the 65 have it. Heck, my brown Fifth Aves fit significantly better than my chili Fifth Aves. Hmm, wait, there's a pattern - ALL OF MY BROWN SHOES FIT BETTER! Total conspiracy.

As promised, here are some pics of my Midnight Navy Strands that I paired with a Mezlan 8594 belt in blue. in my opinion, the colors and styles are a fantastic match for one another. I hope you all appreciate that I took my belt off in my company's parking lot for this! :-D

@Shoes4play, how do they look on your feet? That looks pretty minimal, but sometimes it's exacerbated when worn. If there are another pair in your size it might be worth trying an exchange. But there usually aren't. It's a popular shoe, especially at $399.

So I picked up a pair of russett Freiburg's from the Shoebank and they arrived yesterday.   I have them in tan and absolutely love them.   I have heard about the russet ones having some issues and I've seen several pairs up close that tell me that's true.  This pair doesn't offend me from a defects standpoint so I am likely going to keep them for the reasonable price they are.   Has anyone ever reworked a pair of these?   I think they would look so much better with the welt and sole dressing of the tan ones.   I was just curious if anyone has ever tried to do anything to theirs that improved the look at all.

So, what's the verdict?

I concur, that will either go away as you make them your own or is minimal enough not to worry about. Especially for sub-$400 first-world shell.

Those look like keepers to me! I'd be more worried about the angled left cap/eyelet alignment on the right shoe than I would the bowing. And even those seem VERY minor considering the price.

For AE, that amount of bowing is definitely acceptable and is better than most first-quality pairs. The seconds issue with these is likely the left toe-cap.

I didn't even notice that.
