Well, it seems that this story was noticed by someone at AE.

They look and fit great!
I'm not sure that I should mention names here. I want to offer a great big "thank you!" to all of those at Allen Edmonds who made this happen.
This is a new reason why I appreciate Allen Edmonds.

I always thought AE's customer service and outreach were great (i.e., AE's involvement here and on AAAC), but this takes it to a whole different level. Kudos to AE, this was a fantastic gesture.

Well that's very cool. smile.gif

I'm really liking the fact that AE has a face - PG is the most accessible CEO I can think of, and the company clearly listens.

Is there a way to restore this shoe? Can the color blemishes be repaired?

Thanks

You can try to remove those water stains with a mix of water and vinegar (about 1/3 vinegar). It may take 2-3 applications -- thoroughly wet the stained area and beyond.
Then you can work on restoring the finish with cream polishes.

I recently restored a friends pair of Cole Haans that were in far worse shape than those were.  Clean em up and then add some conditioner, cream and finally some wax.

Just wow!  Huge kudos to AE / CaC or whoever took care of this.  For all the annoyance I've expressed over this stupid policy of not stocking anything in the B&M stores and having to blind buy order everything and make huge numbers of returns unnecessarily, I have to say I'm willing to overlook that.

Speaking of 1776's...

...decided that the liner separation issue was going to bother me too much, so I took the shoes into the AE store I frequent to place an order for an exchange. Coincidentally, they had apparently just put out on display a new pair of 1776's that they received this afternoon, in my size. The asst manager took one look at my shoes and told me they never should've shipped mine to me in the first place based on the eyelets alone, much less the lining issue. She offered to exchange them on the spot for the pair they put on display, which had absolutely zero issues. AE customer service wins again:

Very, very happy with these- and now I'll get to wear them Friday

I'm a big fan of my bitter chocolate suede Players. The brogue suede Strands are really nice too.

Snuff Dundee, Gray Strandmok, and Snuff Boones. Maybe the navy Boones too.

Right now I'm sporting a pair of Johnston & Murphy Morrell Wingtips in grey (yeah, I know it's sacrilege but they are absurdly comfortable to me). Thoughts and opinions?

I love my chocolate suede strands. My navy suede Cavanaughs are also pretty great, but the strands are the most versatile (it helps that they're on Dainite)

Bongos.

Honestly, I would wear my merlot Park Aves with nice jeans.  I did the other day and it didn't look out of place at all.  I wouldn't do that with my chili Lasalles or my bourbon Carlyles.  Depending on the design, I think merlot is extremely versititle, even more so than my walnut Leeds.

Honestly,, maybe it's the angle, but I can barely see it. I have seen far worse, even on my own feet. I have one pair of 9.5 65's that bow and many that don't, and one of my 10's does and the other doesn't. Both those pairs with the bowing feel good on my feet, so its never really bothered me.

I decided to try the 7D Strands and 6.5E McAllisters (both in Merlot) on again tonight. Well, the McAllisters felt a bit better than they did yesterday but I don't like their look quite as much as the Strands. I then put the Strands back on, and while they still felt good to me, I noticed the dreaded "bowing" on the left shoe only. Pictured here:

Called AE to see if I could exchange the 7D Merlot Strands for a 6.5E but of course they were a special-made shoe for their recent sale and they don't have them and wont be making them in my size again. I'll only be wearing these shoes a few times a year for formal events, and who is going to notice that, right? As an additional note, I tried bar-lacing them and they didn't pull as snug as I wanted, then I tried whatever free-style lacing is pictured and they were better. Perhaps I could lace them a better way and they'd feel better AND fix that bowing?

So now I have to decide between the McAllisters which seem to fit ever-so-slightly better or the left-shoe-bowing Strands which I love. :(
