Agree with previous posts, the 333 fit is very different (and for me, better) than the 1943 "replacement."

Thanks for keeping the PC pic tradition alive!

When I walked outside at 6:00 a.m. this morning it was already 80 degrees and almost 100% humidity, so the choice of the AE for Brooks Brothers Gatsby with a seersucker suit seemed appropriate. My colleagues sweating through our first meeting in a conference room with insufficient air conditioning agreed with my choices.

Decided to keep the Niles and wear them today.  The brandy color is quite nice.  V is too large, but I think it will close enough in the future to look okay.

I found the latter to be true for me, but haven't tried on the Kirks.

I think TTS/brannock is certainly the best starting point for the Kirks. That's 9.5D for me, but that had way too much volume below the strap. My navy Kirks are 9B, but I also have 2 pair in 9D (my 5-last size). The strap was tighter, but after some wear there really isn't too much difference. Since the CXL stretches, its ok they that are on the shorter side for me. In this case, I'll take that over volume.

Now the Sea Island is a little shorter and much narrower. Up 1/2 length from brannock, or +1 from 5-last, and maybe even up a width (or two). 9B Kirks on my feet now, and 10E is probably what I would take in the Sea Island. I ordered 9D and 9.5D, and knew immediately that 9.5 wouldn't work. Didn't think I'd get enough wear out of them (I'm partial to the Kirk/Mari) so I didn't even bother with the 10s.

Speaking of the Sea Island... Saw a few today when I swung by the 'rack. Did a quick search of the 8-10 shoes. Saw one odd black captoe with white shoe bags for $249 but no other AEs.

Thanks to @AllenEdmonds for enhancing the Shoe Bank!!!  It is really cool you are listening and acting on feedback so quickly.

Now please do some CXL shoes in the same build as the Shannon Drive!  ;)

I swung into the store in downtown DC, and they had the 1776 in the store.  Looks awesome in person!!

Those are redonkulously awesome.  They look soooooo much better than the stock photos.  I stopped in to the factory store in Port Washington, WI today and ogled the whole tent.  Found some Neumok's in my size that were black where those are white and tan where those are black.  They were cool, but I couldn't think of a practical use for them.   I also found a pair of "Strand-like" shoes that were marked "Prototype" inside in chocolate brown.  I wanted them to fit, but they were a tad small.   If they weren't I would have certainly pulled the trigger.  Off to the Brookfield Shoe Bank after work though, so we will see!

Just received my midnight navy Strands. They look great, better than expected in fact. Yet for some reason I find myself contemplating exchanging them for a pair in oxblood. Just not convinced that I'll wear them enough to justify keeping them. But ... I really do like them. Decisions decisions ...

Thank you,
Yus! Was just thinking about that change and hoping it would come through. I love AE.

And some shell Strands. In honor of @ace13x, I wore these for envy - I was having lunch with a coworker whose wife won't let him buy shell.

Gents - I have a pair of navy strands in 10D that I have worn once. I won't wear them often with my business attire as most of my wardrobe is far more suited to walnuts/chili/brown. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll send some pics. Figured I'd check here before throwing them on the Bay since they were tough to come by.

My only frame of reference as to what's acceptable and what is not is from this forum. Should we do an informal poll as to whether or not you'd keep these, as bought as firsts? smile.gif

Firsts or not, that wouldn't bother me whatsoever since it is on the tongue.

Even the other issues are not a big deal for me, but it is ultimately your call.

There were some smaller imperfections on the welt, and a couple of very small scuffs which I'd decided to live with, but not this. Looks like I'll have to find another excuse to take my wife to a nice place for dinner in the near future...

Is it completely covered when you have the shoe on?  (I think that should have been a second, but wouldn't worry about it if it's not visible when the shoe is on your foot and tied.)

I have a somewhat similar problem -- I'm tempted to grab a merlot strand while they are available, but I probably wouldn't wear it as often as I would a mainline, always-available color like brown or chili. BUT if I'm going to get a brown strand, should I save up for one in shell? It's such a versatile design that it's difficult to settle on only one.
