So you are to far forward in the shoe and having to open the width up in the forward part of the toe box to fit your pinky toes in, which makes the fit seem right, but your ankle is swimming in the back of the shoe

I'm not so sure. We haven't actually seen exactly where the ball of his foot really falls.

Monk strap Monday

Chili Fifth Aves today; I'm not wild about the v-gap but they generally fit pretty well, and going up in width would make the heels slip more than they already do. They are a bit tight across the right instep. Love this color.

@mykoh I just remembered AE doesn't make much in 6.5D beyond the 65 last (I was worried watching that last 20 min of sandler's pixels movie would make me more stupid, guess I was right). So you can't exactly get whatever you want...id check out the 108 and 511 first in a longer length. I found out about the 6.5D months ago when I went looking for a 6.5D rogue.

Maiden voyage of the Freiburgs today. I know I thought these would be relegated to denim duty but I thought this shirt today would pair great. (With some tan chinos). The shoes bring out the reddish brown stripe in the shirt.

Everyone is out of the office today, so it is denim and long wings.

Good ole Fenways, huh? I think mine are due for some maintenance and a wear!

Yes, the Fenways are certainly worth the effort for the look and comfort.

Might be a bit closer, but polish is better at making shoes darker than lighter. I'm making this up, but you might lighten 10-20% (again, that is a WAG).

If your concern is you personally stripping off the burnish, a cobbler can certainly do this for you. If it's philosophical, this might not be the way to go. The shoe care thread might be helpful to make the decision. If you are set in walnut, lighter polish over the bourbon probably won't get you there.

If it was me, I'd get the bourbon. It is a screaming value right now and I personally love the color. Your comfort level may change over time; and it would be quite easy to go from bourbon to walnut (and back!) if you so choose.

Short wing and denim today as well. I broke my personal rule on balmorals and jeans as my Cambridge hadn't been out in a while.

Has anyone successfully used black polish on an oxblood to get a nice antique effect?

I saw someone in the previous appreciation thread that did this with, I think, a walnut or bourbon shoe using black polish. He did it on the cap toe and over the broguing and the effect was gorgeous.

I have a pair of oxblood McGregor wingtips on the way and I'm thinking of doing this with them.

Couldn't find anything searching for it. This was closet I came:

Wore my cognac Lombards today.  Lombards are similar to Players, except that they have rubber soles and heels and Poiron insoles (two of my favorite things)........
