So far a little disappointed with the sale shoes in my size. Was hopefully of a nice cordovan pair but loafers and black macneils were my only options.

Is this sale replacing the July one I had read about?

My first post. :-)

I just received this picture from my "Shoe Dealer." I don't have them in my possession yet but I will take more pictures when I do.

Looking good! I'm waiting for them to touch up my strands but they looked great in hand (the color that is).

I believe this is the tent sale that was referred to earlier yes. I was hoping to snag some BB shoes but they don't have any except some loafers that do not fit my tastes. I did however manage to land some brown Shell Strands in my size which according to the SA should be firsts so I'm pleased with that. I somehow skipped the walnut strand going with midnight navy and then to shell. Perhaps I'll return one day to snag them in walnut.... or maybe the Bartlett will get the nod at that point.

Today, I'm wearing my only pair of AEs that I'm not totally fond of. I speak of the brown Darmstadt. On paper, this shoe had exactly what I was looking for in a casual shoe that spanned seasons - distressed leather, Vibram lug soles, PTB, etc. I could wear it with jeans or chinos in all four seasons. Seemed like a no-brainer.

When I put them on, they felt pretty good. Not as great as I was hoping. But, given that I paid a whopping $97 for them off the Shoebank, I figured that pretty good was an OK substitute for that price point.

Fast forward a couple of months, and the problems with the Darmstadt became apparent. On the right shoe, one of the eyelets hits on a bone on the top of my foot awkwardly (totally my own issue due to a seriously mangled foot in a car accident). None of my other AEs do this, even others on the same last. Sometimes, I can reconfigure the lacing enough to not notice. But, from time-to-time it will rear its ugly head. It's a flaw, but I can work with it.
But, here's the biggest issue I have with the shoe, and I'm wondering if it's just me or if this kind of thing affects the rest of you. These mofos have a red lining. Now, the red lining looks cool and all, but here's the thing—it's tainting my sock supply. Seriously, the red rubs off onto any sock I wear, regardless of thickness. Any lighter colored sock I wear with it comes out with a pink hue at the end of the day, and it doesn't go away. If I wanted pink socks, I'd buy pink socks. Does anyone else have the problem with the lining staining their socks? Or, do I just have abnormally sweaty feet (possibly). Or, is there some trick to treating the lining to keep it from leaching on all my socks?

What other shoes come with that red lining? I'd like to know so I can avoid them in the future. I have to take the shoes off as soon as I get home and change out of the socks, or else the pink staining transfers itself to my hardwood floors if I walk around. I can't be the only one suffering from the Red Scourge, can I? If I am, feel free to make fun of me. Heck, feel free to make fun of me regardless.
Only problem with my MTO Fifth Streets - I asked for red lining instead of Indy. Bleeds on my socks. also with the University (orange lining), but not as noticeable. Thankfully, no one sees that part of my socks. So meh. Lesson learned, regular or Indy lining > fancy color.

But instead of taking off your socks, just leave the shoes on when you get home! Or wear house slippers. #doyouevenslipperbro

I was really hoping for brown strands myself I have them in calf however the recent posts had me sold.

Curious however as to the opinions on burgundy shell dalton. It's the only shell shoe I liked in my size, we'll a slight size change however it would work. I haven't seen that in person does anyone have any real pics or opinions of the burgundy dalton? How does it compare to the oxblood?

The shell leather is made at the Horween factory and is available in limited colors. These are primarily brown, black and "#8" which is a burgundy color. They do make other colors such as cigar, Ravello and whisky, but AE does not really use these and they are far less common. With that said, I do not believe you would be able to choose a burgundy shell versus an oxblood or merlot. The #8 is what it is and AE just chooses to call it burgundy. Alden calls it #8, but it is the same stuff coming out of the door of Horween. I once heard a urban legend of AE doing some additional spray or treatment to #8 once at the AE factory, but someone far more familiar with that would have to say if it was correct.

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to oxblood calf in terms of color. I love the pics I've seen of them and was curious if it had a similar hue. I would love to see fellow members real lighting pictures of the shell dalton. I would like to make the jump however don't want to do it blind.

Thanks

If I'm completely honest, I prefer the oxblood calf in that photo.

ETA:  Gray Suede Strandmok 2.0 ordered from the bank.  I'm safe until oxblood Daltons show up in 10B.

Just ordered some Concord Aves in Tan Saddle from Shoebank- $67. Can't argue with that...

Haha loving the hash tag usage in this thread. So I was about to buy the Bartlett (only a matter of time) and I got to thinking why only buy one pair when you can buy two? Strandmok (brown don't own)...Bartlett (walnut will own)...Strand (oxblood own)...Strand (suede own) redundant? #doyouevenbarnweaselbro

Thats what worries me, the oxblood look great the burgundy looks bland. Not to say it's bad but is it worth $100 up charge versus the oxblood calf which appears better?

I know the quality of Shell is supposed to be amazing but I don't want to settle since it's still $400.

Interested in hearing the forum's thoughts on something: I own a pair of brown McGraws, which I mainly wear with sportcoats or slacks and sweaters. If I want to add a second pair of loafers for more casual wear, which color would be more versatile: tan, or burgundy? The Kenwood's lasts fits my foot well, and the tan saddle ($169) and burgundy shell ($300) are both priced very reasonable right now.

The Kenwood is taunting me as well.  I personally really like the look of tan, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.  The McGraws are very dark, aren't they?  Tan is definitely more  casual than burg and could be a nice compliment to the dark brown..

hhmmmm... but shell......
