Wearing my khaki McTavish today. I think these are my favorite AEs I own...

What last are the Aberdeens on and how do they fit compared to the 65? I really like the look of them and have been on the lookout for a pair.

It's on 222 last, but fits slightly looser than other shoes on that last. The toebox is more tapered, narrower and has less volume compared to 65. The shoe is slightly shorter overall, as well. I swim in 8D 65 lasted bluchers, but these fit pretty well, just a tad loose.

Thanks. I really like how the khaki color is close enough to walnut, these are justifying to me to not buy some walnut AEs!

I contemplated not keeping these when I bought them because I didn't think they were light enough. I replaced the laces with some beige laces and I think it helps make the overall shoe appear lighter. So glad I kept them!

$130 shipped on ebay and they were new when I bought. :)

Are those 10's or 10.5s?  If they are 10s, I'd say you are being overly picky and they are beautiful.  If they are 10.5s (which happens to be my size) you might want to send them back, as those flaws make them candidates for the Shoebank and sale at a discounted price.

@barto78 I second this opinion. Just PM when you send them back and I'll be on the lookout for them on the Shoebank.

But, does AE recraft shoes with an FR stamp? I have a pair that likely can't be worn even once more. I bought them lightly used and wore them about 30X.
They are also a pretty rare size on a shoe that has been discontinued. 12.5AAAA Dover.

I also have a pair of Rover in a size 13AAAA that has maybe one more season left. Are those recraftable?

Last question: I can't have the fit get any wider on these. Not even a little. I know when they recraft them they usually end up narrower, but I figure with such narrow shoes anything might happen. They might use a wider last or put them on a wider sole.

Thanks in advance guys!

Pic of modest collection. I had about 6 pairs at one time, but 2 pairs gave out on me and I lost another pair at the gym. With my ET Wright brown loafers and vintage Florsheim dark brown longwings I feel I have no need for anything besides maybe a tan pair of Strands or something like it in an 12.5AAAA or maybe a 13AAAA. I know they made that size at one point, but none have popped up on EBay.

Gentlemen,

I received my AE Shell Strands yesterday and i wanted to get your input on whether or not i should send these back. There are 3 issues i have with the shoes and wanted to see if i'm nitpicking over nothing or if i should be annoyed this happened on a pair of shoes that cost nearly $700.

  1. There is some fraying on the leather on the outer portion of each shoe.
  2. The cap toe portion on the right shoe is not straight and is curved
  3. The broguing on the shoes is uneven. One shoe has it starting just slightly higher than the other. It probably would never be noticeable once the shoes are on my feet, so this one is just me nitpicking.

Thoughts/Feedback?

The crooked cap would always bother me. I have returned several pairs for this and although they say it is within spec, I would disagree. Send em back.

That toe cap will bother me at this price, though everything else looks fine to me. If you can live with it, I am sure AE can offer you these at 2nds price..

I have recrafted a pair with the FR stamp.

You can contact AE Customer Service and ask them these questions and they will be better able to answer them - especially the width / last question.

A big day today. Will be seeing one of my all time favorites at MSG, David Gilmour. So, naturally, I went for something that's super comfortable and can take a beating. AE Aberdeens for BB.

Have a nice day everyone!
I've seen the Floyd in Dallas, Kansas City, and Raleigh twice. The last album I bought was "On an Island".

Quietly one of the most influential guitarists to come out of the 60's/70's.

Last time I was at MSG I flew up for the Clapton/ Steve Winwood/ Blind Faith show. That's been a while ago.

Enjoy it!

Gentlemen,

for a while I've been using the website sizeadvisors.com to help my online size matching.

I found it when trying to read up on the latest AE Lasts: http://sizeadvisors.com/blog/2015/08/17/switching-allen-edmonds-latest-last-designations/

If you build a profile and input your shoes and measurements, it gets you very close on other shoes.

Here are the shoes I've rated:

there isn't a way to differentiate well-fitting shoes. I consider bot the 108 and the 201 to fit really well, but the 108's get uncomfortable after 12 hours on my feet at a trade show, and the 201's never get uncomfortable. No way to rate it a 5.

And here are a subset of recommendations:

I've checked the tool against shoes I have but didn't input yet to see what it would suggest. For example, florsheim shell longwings it recommended 11D, which is, in fact my size.

The website isn't the best, but one you input your profile, you get taken to that on logon.

Well, i called AE Customer Service and emailed them photos of the shoes. I will advise if i end up sending them back to them, so one of you guys can check the ShoeBank for a pair of 2nd's (size 10 D). If they offer me a discount of 20% to hold onto them, then i'll keep them. Otherwise, they're going back and i'm going to have them make a new pair. I didn't ask for any discount in order to keep them and told them at this point i just wanted to do an exchange. I sent them the pictures so they can decide my concerns are valid.

I hate to complain about stuff like this and waiting for them to come back again is going to suck, but i'd rather do that, then pay full price for a pair of shoes i'm not 100% satisfied with. If these were purchased as seconds i would be ecstatic, but alas, they were not.

Thanks. I am very excited. This will be my first time seeing him live. I read half of the show are his newer songs and the rest is Pink Floyd classics, so ought to be good.

I assume FR is for factory reject? How is this different from the "no warranty" stamp that is often seen on a few ebay sellers?

That's what I am afraid of
