I've been debating a tassel loafer for a while and almost bought a pair in chili or oxblood during the seconds sale.  Those look sharp!

Now is the time I believe, unless they will be included with the July 4th sale. I'm very tempted to buy a pair with this discount and the AMEX $50 offer, but I can't decide which color to get. My current Allen Edmonds dress shoe collection consists of the Strand in walnut, the Park Avenue in dark brown, the Lasalle in chili, the McAllister in bourbon and a MTO MacNeil in white suede. I'm thinking either the midnight navy or oxblood. Any thoughts/suggestions?

For those of you who have the Sea Island, is sizing the same as your 65 last?

I'm leaning oxblood as well. Thanks.

Not sure. I get offers every payment cycle from AMEX and for this one you get $50 back if you spend $200 or more at Allen Edmonds. That would put these Strands at $225. I don't think you will find a better price for a pair of brand new AEs.

I'd give the midnight navy a shot if it isn't to your liking just exchange for oxblood. Oxblood is a great color so I don't think you will have regrets either way.

AMEX $50 offer is an AMEX reward you activate. If you spend $250+ you get a $50 credit (must be with AMEX card).

Whenever we talk "rotation," I always find myself wanting to chime in, but don't... so here's my $0.02:

Think about what you wear most often.  Think about the colors and formality.

Now, think about what you want to wear most often in the future.  Is this different than the present?

If it's the same, consider adding to a color & formality match that you may currently overuse.  This may add to the longevity of your current and newly added pairs.

If you want to change, add a color & formality match to what you'd like to wear, and use this investment as an impetus to change.  Later, review your decision and if your sentiment holds, restart the process from line 2.  If not, resell.  The market's relatively fluid.

In my case, I found that mid-brown to dark brown shoes work best with what I wear.  Realizing this, I figured I'd broaden my color palette and ventured into some more reds and tans and bought additional clothes accordingly.  Upon realizing that these new options and combinations resulted in (in my mind) time I could have spent not mulling over the day's color combination options, I've retrenched to mid-to-dark browns and mid-to-dark blues for pants.  Wide optionality didn't bring happiness, only indecision.

So - in short, if you like what you have and your dark brown parks are being pounded into submission, snag some dark brown Strands.  Otherwise, consider where you want to expand.  :teach:

Merlot Hopkinsons on a Tuesday after I put my first shine on them with some wax polish. Up to this point I had only treated them with conditioner.

For fans of A-E shoes in the wild pictures, wearing brogue suede Strands on my way to get a cookie.  Although my shoes are seconds, whatever it was that made them seconds doesn't show in this picture.

Here is the cookie.  Although some of you might find fault with the cookie because the icing isn't perfect, there was nothing wrong with the cookie.

There is also nothing wrong with A-E shoes when the stitching isn't perfect and enlarged photographs of an imperfect stitch are rather boring.  Nobody can see it when you're using the shoes as directed.

Well played Roycru, but you don't seem to be enjoying that cookie very much. wink.gif

This is very good. Thanks for the feedback. I typically wear (90% of the time) a sportcoat to work instead of a suit, so I always lean towards the slightly less formal, lighter trousers for most of the year/warm months here in the south (light grey, sand, light brown and normal to light blue). Therefore, I find myself wearing brown and walnut/chestnut/light brown shoes the most. Having said that, I think either the oxblood or, especially, the dark navy would balance it out some. Honestly, I always lean walnut but I don't need the exact same shoe right now! haha
