AE's return policy is better, but if you know your size then you are set.

Pics look even better than the AE stock photos. 1/2 off has me seriously considering.

I love me an AE boot! And I guess most of mine are technically NOT plain toe (Daltons, LBs, Normandy MTO'd with lug sole, 1st Ave in Walnut and Brown grain with Dainite, Portland, 5th Street, Shakers, Bleeckers)... and the ones that are (Amok, Gobi, Frieburg) are all different enough to justify it. Right? Right, filthy barn weasels?

Curiously, there are a few pairs of Cornwallis in dark chili on the shoebank. I had just been thinking that a dark chili Cornwallis would be perfect.

If it was just one, I'd assume it was a MTO gone wrong. Maybe they're starting to make them in chili?

I would order your normal size.

Thanks.  This has pretty much convinced me never to buy AE's on Amazon again.

I'm looking at the 201 last and I'm not sure if I should go with 9D or 9E. The 201 is supposed to be a little larger and forgiving but they did not have any in my size to try on in store (this has to be killing store sales).

In my experience 11D on the 201 is basically equivalent to 11E on the 65. Comparing these two:
- toe box is similar
- heel a bit wider on the 65
- overall volume a bit higher on the 201

For me, I'd go down a width from your 65. Going down a half size could also work, though.

Ha... maybe I am an oddball. I like split toes. Not a big fan of mocs though.

I've seen some pop up on the Shoebank and likewise thought they were gone before.

Perhaps one of you knows the answer to this: while reading saddle shoe reviews on the AE site, someone mentioned "Bobby socks." Well, I thought girls wore those and a quick google image search confirmed that. And sure enough, in many vintage photos, the young ladies were wearing black and white saddle shoes as well.

So, how exactly did saddle shoes transform from 1950's high school girl fashion to something men are wearing from AE? crazy.gif

I'd go for Red Wing Beckman over AE Sturgis, if I was you. They frequently go for ~$150 on the bay.

Agreed. I dig Red Wing boots and shoes. I have 3 sets of Red Wing boots and another on the way. One Red Wing oxford. The Red Wings are my durable outdoor work and inclement weather options. AE shoes are my good weather options.

All,

Does navy suede Cavanaugh come with brown or black sole edges? The pictures show brown, but for some reason I remember someone on this forum mentioned a while back that they were black.

@Neo1 , would you say that length on the 114 is the same as 606?

Thanks everyone in advance!

From an interesting webpage:

"The American shoe factory A.G. Spalding created and introduced the saddle shoe in 1906. First designed for indoor sports, the separate waist piece was reinforced and intended to bring additional support for the instep. The colourful and comfortable pairs were quickly worn by the thousands, and gained tremendous support among the youth both on and off court as well as among the older, golf-playing set. When Lindy Hop and Jitterbug spread in the States, the dancers often sported saddle shoes. Although the unisex word was coined in the loose hippery of the ’60s, the saddle shoe was a genuinely genderless shoe type for over half a century before, and worn by all from tiny girl scouts to burly, beefy executives."
