Have you tried a local cobbler? Mine charges $70 after tax for a full resole.

Good idea, I'll check out the local shoe repair.

Yes. I'm a 13C or 12.5D in the 5 last. My salesman likes the 13C best on me but I prefer the 12.5D. Not to mention I have a BB Park Ave in 13D. They all fit great.

I used to bar lace all my shoes, but grew tired of the look as it's somewhat basic. Now I lace all of my shoes differently based on a few factors:

1) Derbys should not be bar laced. I only have one bar laced derby, which is my Bradleys and I don't know why I did it other than it "just looked right".

2) if my oxfords lace completely shut, the bar lacing helps for a snugger fit and cleaner look. Also, I use the bar lacing style with the criss-cross underneath as it feels more sturdy, especially if a shoe fits a tad large.

3) I try not to bar lace casual styles/colors. For instance I'm always going to bar lace my black Harrisons, but I will try to avoid it on my bourbon McAllisters or walnut Strands unless the fall into point #2. For instance, the brown Strandmoks I'm wearing right now are bar laced because they close.

I personally like having multiple lacing styles on different shoes because it breaks up the monotony a bit. I'm sure my views will evolve, but I like the system I have now.

Noticed that Sheltons popped up on Clearance, thought these were gone for good? 511 last and I'm a little tempted. Any thoughts?

What is the consensus of the 201 last vs the 65 last for those of you that have 201 lasted shoes? 9E seems to fit me best on the 65 last after spending an hour trying on different shoes at an AE store this weekend. I'm looking at the 201 last and I'm not sure if I should go with 9D or 9E. The 201 is supposed to be a little larger and forgiving but they did not have any in my size to try on in store (this has to be killing store sales).

Hi gents,I'm wondering how much space on a V-gap on bals can be reduced after the shoe fully break in. I know it varies shoe to shoe, but on calfskin 5 last models, have you experienced a 1/4-1/2 inch difference before-after?

I do love them but my collection of shoes pretty quickly got out of hand in the last year. I was sitting at like 30+ pairs and was finding myself not showing enough wear to lots of items. I need to cut out of redundancy and start to think about what shoes and boots I really want to have. Just like I loved my truffle McAllisters but I needed to sell them since I always reached for Ravello longwings over them. It's to the point tough calls are having to be made to try and trim things down. i would love to get to a 20 shoe collection, sitting at about 26 right now.

Which one for the shaft? And which last? (I lust after the mahogany cc/clove version Leffot has. Or, you know, the shell/Utah MTO they have up. Just need to check the couch cushions for a spare $2500).

Back to AE - I've been wanting the Sheltons in Walnut/Brown forever, but they only ever had black/burgundy on Shoebank in my size. I might need to bite the bullet even though I said I was done until fall.

Order both, keep the one that fits best. If they won't let you use the stores to try them on, take advantage of free shipping (which is again free regardless of purchase, I'm glad to see).
