The LaSalle Street store is about halfway between me and Port Washington. Why does it take longer to get shoes shipped from the store than from the factory; both of which are a one-day UPS point?

How does one polish tassel loafers? Do I avoid polishing the tassels?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I was horrified to read your post about your walnut strand bag breaking!  I love mine and would be devastated if it broke.  Glad to hear AE said they'd take care of it, though.

It seems like that last just doesn't work for you. Maybe try a Hopkinson for a very similar cap-toe style on a different last (but an extra $100, unless you can find a deal).

There is a lot of variability within a last, especially with something like the 65.  We can break things down in general - 1) Have you tried a blucher instead of a bal, did it work better/worse/no difference?; 2) No loafers on the 65, so N/A for that; 3) Have you tried a boot, what was that like - better/worse? 4) Have you tried other materials such as suede? 5) Have you compared a "rough collection" against a dressy shoe - did it fit a lot looser? 5) Have you played around with the brooks bros models and are they better or worse?

Beyond that, as long as the shoes aren't too short in length, they will absolutely stretch out over time with extended wear.  To accelerate this, put on a pair of medium weight socks or something normally too heavy for the shoes and suck it up for a couple really lengthy wears.  See how they are afterwards.

Bottom line - don't rule out an entire last until you have exhausted every possible option.

Yeah well luckily the latch still functions and even holds a lot of weight still which shows the quality is high since it has a secondary "failsafe". I love though how they stand behind their products.
The guy said that a bag that beautiful and expensive shouldnt break therefore the repair should be and is free of charge.

Hmm. now I'm worried. I just cancelled an eBay order for the Grayson 8D because AE customer rep told me  I should get 9D for Grayson if I wear 8.5 D for PA

I'm thinking maybe the rep mixed it up. I think people size down a half from PA to Grayson. I personally do not, as my instep is a bit too high to size down. But I certainly don't size up.

Got an early Father's Day present today.... the Strand duffle.  My wife immediately took it from me.  It complements my Strand double briefcase well.

First experience with the 5 last. I tried on my normal size (I wear 11D in the 1, 4, and 7 lasts) at Nordstrom a few months back and they felt a little tight, so took a chance following the advice I'd seen on the forums in the past and went down a half size and up a width to 10.5 E and it seems to work like a charm.

In bad news, that means I've opened a whole new gateway to all the 5 last options that I was previously hesitant on. Must resist the temptation.

Feet tend to swell a bit later in the day.  That could be why the fit a bit better today.

I had a question.

If anyone has any experiences with the AE Strandmok how is it? Is it worth getting?

I ask as I was considering getting the Strandmok in Brown as a birthday gift to myself.

By far they are my most comfortable AEs. Do it.

Did you measure both your heel to toe size and your heel to ball size?  You might fit better in a 9.5D if the 9E was too loose.  Might be worth a try.
