You might want to try thicker socks with the Sauks before you give up on them. I've found that thick hiking socks can basically reduce the size of a pair of boots by almost 1/2 of a brannock size. I like these: http://www.wigwam.com/products/p-hiking-outdoor-pro-socks.aspx?productid=2386

I'm guessing they mean Color 2???  Cornwallis?  The Burgundy pair someone posted a few weeks back looked pretty good.

Not sure if you grabbed them based on my post about them on ebay for $119 but I have had my pair for a little over a week and they have quickly moved into a favorite spot, today is the 3rd time I am wearing them.

Yes, I typically wear boot socks with boots.  Thorlo's are my go to.  Its not the width or the volume, its the length in front of the toes, even with boots socks.  I also have some ridiculously thick Colombia wool socks, but still not feeling it.

@JLC2 This is pretty common honestly. It is where the welt ends meet. I don't see discoloration requiring you to put the matching edge dressing but if you have it, it cannot hurt. If it is the matching dressing nobody will know and frankly I edge dress my shoes almost as often as I shine/polish them. Black usually gets more use than my others because the marks on them are more visible.

I agree that the little notch where the ends of the welt meet is normal and not a problem. I personally wouldn't touch it. But, if it's bothering you, you might be able to use something like this (http://www.minwax.com/wood-products/preparation/minwax-stainable-wood-filler) to fill the little gouge, and then "stain" it with some chili or neutral edge dressing.

Thanks guys!

I used a bit of chilli edge dressing, but not over the whole edge. I turned a q-tip into a makeshift brush and put some edge dressing on that to apply just to the inside of the separation. Worked like a charm - I'm not sitting here staring at it anymore :)

I was planning to sit out the RDA sale. Then someone mentioned a Shoebank sale too, and there is one particular shoe that has my attention.
Does anyone have information on the Shoebank sale?
What models are included, etc.?
Thank you (was not said by my wallet).

Not sure if it applies to all shoes, but I just ordered a pair of Brooks Dundees that were $149.  I thought that I saw someone mention that it was just a straight 25% off all-around.

Hello fellow barnweasels, long time listener, first time caller here.

Looking for a bit of sizing advice in advance of the RDA sale.  I'm looking to add 1 or maybe 2 pairs of shoes (probably seconds) as part of the sale, and I've got a couple on my radar (most likely seconds if I can get them):

Brooks Warwick

Brooks MacNeil

Rogue

Warwick (in Oxblood, because Oxblood)

My brannock is 9.5D/E (right on the border) and I have a fairly high instep.  My 65 last balmorals (Strand, McAllister, Park Ave) are 9E, and have a decent V-gap (maybe 1/2" on the PA, more like 3/4" on the Strand).  I also have a pair of Carlyle in 9E that fit like slippers with nearly no gap, and MacGregors in 9D that also fit really well after some slight break-in.

Given that the Rogue is the 201 last and a blucher, I'm thinking 9D there.  What I'm not sure about is the Warwick, specifically if I could get away with a 9D in that, or if I'd have to jump to a 9E.  Similarly for the MacNeil, does the 97 last run shorter than the 201/65 last?

Any wisdom that I can gain from the greater community?

If you're already in an "E" size, I'd go E with the 201 also.  Your feed sound like a smaller version of mine - High-ish instep and Brannock rounds up to a 12, full-D that puts me in an "E" in several lasts including several 65-last shoes like the Neumok and MacAllister, but D in the McTavish.  I'm an 11.5 in all of those shoes (1/2 down from my TTS Brannock, though I'm really 11.75....).   My 201-last Shannon Drives fit me pretty well, though I'm guessing I'd be most comfortable in an 11.5E.

I find the 201 slightly longer than the 5-last and a bit more generous in the toe, but not incredibly so.

My 7-last MacNeils are 12's (TTS), and fit well.  I wouldn't size down for the 7-last.

It is amazing how good well-sized shoes shoes fit.  In the Alden Barrie last and Grant Stone's Leo last, the shoes feel like they were literally built around my feet - I can walk miles and miles over the course of the day and my feet feel fine.  I've got it almost as good with my McT's but especially the Academy - I have put a lot of miles on those in a single day and they did great.

During the various outlet sales, it seems common that the Brooks Brothers models drop to $149. As for the other seconds sales that have taken place since I have been paying attention, it doesn't seem to be just an across-the-board reduction of a certain percentage (like 25%). For example, other "closeout" styles have not been discounted any further from what I have seen. What I would expect to see is that the models that are the most heavily discounted at the retail stores (i.e. McAllister, Fifth Ave) will probably be discounted the most at the outlets so as to keep their prices below the retail sale prices. My guess is that a variety of current model shoes will be discounted up to $100 off the normal seconds prices.  That is, you might see a few go as low as $199.

I'll report back anything I hear.

Took the dawn patrol flight out of Newark to get home. Got a great seat and gave my Bentons some sun.

They should make the AE catalogs / mailers with laminated pages so that my drool doesn't ruin them.

Green shell looks pretty badass.  Someone was asking about this.

I'm thinking 335 for navy might not be so bad when you compare it to 650 navy shell.   Going to have to consider this one carefully.   I just fear the navy is going to sell out again.  I wish there was a way to know if they are going to go to clearance in a few weeks / months.

RDA catalog says, Lowest prices of the year," but the HM is $297.50, and I paid $250 in their sale.
