Those scuffs on shell cordovan will rub right out.  A little Saphir Renovateur and a convex surface like a spoon (or deer bone) with gentle pressure in a circular pattern, and they will disappear.

That's the kind of stuff that you would accumulate after a few wears.  I've seen shell cordovan 1sts look much worse than that.

If those were obtained at any kind of sale price, I'd happily keep them.

But, I'm not sure what my size would be on a 201 blucher.

My McAllisters and Strands in 9E fit pretty much perfectly out of the box. I don't have a high instep, but what pushes me to an E (from my brannock D) is pressure on my pinky knuckles.

Given the whole shipping to Canada thing, I'd like to get it right on the first shot.

Would the same 9E be the best bet for the olive Shannon Drives? Or would open lacing on the 201 suggest going down in width to a 9D?

No experience with the Shannon Drive, but I'm an 11E in strands, for the exact same reason (D would fit me fine except for my smallest 2 toes). 11E is slightly wider than I need but works and is comfortable. I also have the Hopkinson (another bal on the 201) and I'm a solid 11D; the toe box has way more room than the 65. I'm 11D in most AE lasts (that's also my Brannock), so for me I'd start with the D. Feets is different, so YMMV, but I suspect the D would work based on your description.

I'm 10E in 65 and same size fits fine in Shannon Drive.

Kinda bummed that AE has taken the Dundee in shell off the site. I bought 2nds during the last sale that are too narrow, and have been hanging onto them to hopefully exchange for the right size when they show up on the shoebank. I was also thinking my impatience may get the best of me and I'd take advantage of a good sale and just buy firsts.

Me too!

Makes me wonder if the Dundee is going away like the Gobi did and another will take it's place.??

looking to build a collection of basic dress shoes. in addition to black park avenue and walnut strands, any recommendations? I was thinking about a darker brown in fifth avenue, either dark chili or brown burnished calf. any suggestions? if that seems like a reasonable third shoe, which color would be more versatile?

The dark chili FA is a bad as shoe, probably my favorite for that color.  Maybe a burgundy shoe like a McAllister.

I have Strand in Dark Chili and McGregor in Oxblood. Style of shoe aside, I tend to prefer the Oxblood. Oxblood ftmfw.

Honestly, both the dark chili and the brown burnished are great colors and would work with most everything. I have Strands in brown burnished and McAllisters in dark chili and I want each of them in the other color as well.

The Higgins Mill in 9D is also a fantastic fit.

I don't know how the HM last compares to the the 201 in terms of width. But, anyone if has HM vs Shannon Drive experience, I'd love to hear it!

I think HM is wider than 201, and more generous in the toe box.

To my understanding, the 201 is an evolution of the 65-last to make it a little more universal.  I'm an E in some 5-last shoes (McAllister, Neumok), but my Shannon Drives are very good in a D.  I'd like to try an E just to see if the fit is even better, but I'd generally say if you have a 5-last size that works for you except tight at the mid-foot or the toes, the same size in a 201 is going to be a very similar fit but less tight in those areas.

I like my Shannon Drives a lot for fit.  The Academy is better, but the Shannon Drives are really good, and cool shoes to boot.

Dalton $329
Normandy/Long Branch $279
Mora 2.0 $279
Cornwallis/Leiden $279
Lake Forest $279
Cavanaugh $199
Strandmok $229
Voyager $199
Strand $335
PA $335
St John $335
Exchange Place $335
Indy Collection $420
Grayson $335
Road Warriors $250

Gah, I was hoping Grayson's would be sub $300, so much for that- I'm glad I found my Verona II's for the price I did so I at least have some black loafers. The only thing I could see myself doing would be replacing my bourbon Mora 2.0's with brown or dark chili ones, but that's honestly not likely. For $245, maybe some dark chili or walnut McAllisters, but again- not likely.

Sad day.

Edit: actually, I might be convinced to get some walnut or dark chili Daltons at $329.....
