@Lobster33 I usually don't post about this kind of thing but I'll do a few just to get you going
1f609.png

Dalton black calf 2nds - 117
Brooks Strand 2nds, walnut - 100
Brooks MacNeil 2nds, black - 100
Maxfield 1sts, merlot - 80
Brooks Shelton 2nds, walnut/walnut - 100
Jermyn 1sts, black - 147
Walton 1sts, chili - 140
Brooks San Marco 1sts, brown - 83
(huge shout out to the incompetent SAs at BB for repeatedly screwing things up and causing me to miss the black pair)
Nashua 1sts, black - 100

That's enough for now.

So, couple of weeks ago I was criticizing AE for the direction that it seems to be headed. Maybe some was deserved and some was unjust, but who knows... Anyways, I had to come clean and show my appreciation for the brand and the value it offers to many of us.

During May-June, I have been on shoe buying rampage, or as some may say, barn weasel on steroids. I have purchased 10 pairs, and we are not even halfway through June. Combined, the retail price is over $3,600 but they cost me around $1,300 (after 2 x $50 off with the AMEX offer). That is about 65% off from retail. Some might say I am crazy (my wife is now convinced that I am), but I just couldn't pass the savings and I got some really great shoes, filling important gaps. I apologize for the long post, but I thought that shoe aficionados (aka shoe junkies) like you might enjoy it. So, without further ado, I present to you the lineup from the highest to the lowest I paid.

1) Strand - Merlot calf ($245 - AE store, retail $395)
The price was just too good to pass. Should receive them next week.

2) First Avenue - Tan pebble grain (paid $197 - Shoebank, retail $425)
I wasn't really looking at these boots, as I really didn't like the grain leather that I had seen on the 1st Ave in the store. However, I decided to give it a shot after a good friend of ours @Neo1 brought it to my attention. Well, I am glad I did, so thanks buddy! They fit great, the leather feels nice, and the color is perfect. Most importantly, they are on dainite soles, which will work out just fine with the Northeast weather. And, they appear to be firsts.

3) Mora 2.0 - Bourbon calf (paid $177 - Shoebank, retail $385)
I had my eye on this shoe in the bourbon color for a long time, but had always tried the wrong size in the 108 last, and the bourbon color had always scared me. But the color on these is surprisingly nice and they fit fine.

4) Elgin – tan (paid $167 – Nordstrom Rack, retail $295)
I really liked this style the minute I saw it; however, I came across AE after it had been discontinued. I was pleasantly surprised to find it at NR online. These must be left overs that had been misplaced in the warehouse. Whatever the case, I am glad I found them and they are first quality.

5) Sea Island – olive suede (paid $150 – Nordstrom Rack, retail $295)
I wasn’t really in the market for these, but I was in need of some summer shoes. The price and the color made sense, so pulled the trigger, and I am glad I did. They look great, appear to be first quality and they are made in the US.

6) Lubbock – tan (paid $147 – Shoebank, retail $295)
The credit for these goes to @Neo1 for pointing them out. I do like monk straps, and after the disaster with my incorrectly sized Norwich, I jumped on these. The fit isn’t the greatest, but I have really only tried them on in the store, so we will see…

7) Jefferson 1.0 – brown calf (paid $100 – Ebay, retail $485)
Regardless, of how many balmorals and wingtips I have, I just couldn’t pass them for this price.

8) Concord Avenue – tan (paid $70 – Shoebank, retail $275)
I always scrolled passed these on AE main site or the Shoebank as, for some reason, I thought that they were from the lower-end lines. However, after seeing the pictures of the stone suede version posted by fellow forum member, I decided to look into it. At the time, the suede versions were long gone, but I was able to find the tan leather version. They are a very nice pair of shoes and an absolute steal at this price. I can’t recall the exact spelling of the name, but I think it was @CT1. So thanks man!

9) Kirkwood – brown CXL (paid $57 – Shoebank, retail $175)
These are the last year’s model, which has been discontinued; hence, the steep price reduction. They feel kind of weird on my feet, but maybe I am just not used to CXL and this type of styling.

10) MacNeil - #8 Shell Cordovan (paid – will not say as some of you might have a heart attack, retail $650)
Purchase these used from Ebay. They are worn, but show minimal wear. The seller obviously didn’t know that they were shell cordovan, so I got them pretty cheap.

I'm at nine. Eleven if I go back to 4/19/16, when I picked up shell Dundee's. My list would include the Strands and Elgins from your list, and the more pictures people keep posting of the Sea Islands I may be down for a pair.

Yeah...this guy is completely out of control...sadly, if i had the money to spend right now, i'd have done even more damage than this by now..

So say we all.

Edit: I did PASS on a pair of purple Lake Mendota and bone Navy Piers for $25 each on Wednesday, because even I knew I'd just be getting them to add to the body count.

can walnut strands be pretty versatile? i found a deal in my size and have always wanted a pair of Walnut strands, just asking myself what can i wear with them. i dont have an office job so these will be for whatever dress up occasion or church, etc. i have a pair of dark chili madison parks, just looking to put together a small arsenal of nice shoes

I have found walnut to work well with khaki, navy and gray. just make sure to wear a matching belt. Although these are not Strands, they are walnut to check the color combinations.

Love these lists and price opportunities exposed. Many of my favorite daily wear items were similarly inexpensive.

And I know many folks just say no to used items, but my first AE pair in 2013 was a used pair of Long Branches that I wore twice last week. They cost under $100 - and no one told me they wouldn't fit my feet so well so they fit well enough to launch my own obsession. Also picked up a used pair of black shell MacNeils from Australia for under $75 shipped (in rough shape), but Macs method has resulted in multiple wears.

I had just ordered the oxblood pair when the merlot ones went on sale. I'm tempted have a friend with an AmEx buy the Merlots for me and pay him back; $195 for Strand firsts (in what's probably a more versatile color) is too hard to pass up. Is the AmEx promotion still on?
As promised. Here are my brand new Merlot McAllisters that just came in last night compared to my Oxblood Strands and Dark Chili Strands. Close up: The Merlot and Oxblood are virtually indistinguishable, if you compare the Merlot to the burnished parts of the Oxblood. If you look at the unburnished parts of the Oxblood, they're a little more red than the Merlot (look to the left of the laces of the Strand in the first pic). Oddly, in the second pic, the merlot looks more red and the oxblood more purple. That's because of the lighting. In lower light, it's reversed and the merlot looks a little more purplish than the oxblood. But regardless, the colors are very close, both burgundy variants.

I wear walnut almost exclusively with blue. I think that is by far the best combo. Not to say others are terrible but not quite as suited imo.

I'm posting these for sale elsewhere, but figured I would cross-post these here as well. MacNeil longwings, size 15D. I bought these and tried them on extensive, had taps installed. I love how they look, but never never wore them outside because they felt a little too large for me, and now I'm replacing them with a new, smaller pair. I'm looking to get what I paid for them, which is $215.

@Neo1 Kirkwoods in CXL seem to have a lot more volume all around, which may giving a false impression that they may be longer. I would also be concerned with instep if I was you. It is pretty low on SI, similar to the Patriot. I'd suggest you try your usual size of 7D and also 7.5D.
