I don't have it in on mine either, but like @Skelnik, I used a $50 off offer in June for my Kirkwoods and Maritimes.

My dad has it on his card, so I may hit him up for a gift card. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

My laces arrived.  I really like the colors and quality.  I wish I had ordered 4 mm instead of 3.  I think AE uses 4 mm laces, but I'm not 100% certain.  The 5 mm laces are too thick, so don't order those unless you are using them for boots.

Thank you. I was thinking of trying some flat laces, and had assumed that I needed the 3 mm width.

That's a real shame. I have zero practical experience here, but everything I've read (and it has been a fair bit) makes me very doubtful of a good outcome with stretching shell. Certainly you can't be aggressive with it.

Quick back story: Went to my local store about a month ago, use 9D & 9.5D in the HM to determine I need B width, no B widths in the store, pay for a 9.5B, they also order in a 9B just in case. Fit is great, but both pair look pretty beat up. Manager said they were going back and ordered in another 9.5B.

Swung by today for my replacement pair. They looked great! No tiger striping or fatty spots, limited nicks (I am fine with this, they're cxl boots after all).

Go to try them on. Damn it! One fits much looser than the other. Enough that I wonder if it is a mismarked D width. SA - one I've never seen before - tells me that's because they are handmade. In the middle of me calling him on that, he corrects himself to "hand lasted." Says it's very common for one to fit wider than the other or even between different pairs of the same model. I definitely pushed back on this, saying that is bad QC not a positive/celebrated affordance of hand-lasted shoes. Turns out the old pair was still in the back. Try them on again. Yup, they fit great. Go back to the replacement pair, nope righty still fits bigger. The SA initial said I could keep the mismatched pair, but then after checking with the other SA... nope. "Not allowed, because they have different lot numbers on the inside."

Guess I either live with these, hoping the footbed settles enough and they don't overly crease from excess volume, OR I wait even longer for a pair of shoes that I needed to pre-pay for before ever even trying them on. Took them home to mull it over. Rather than dealing with the store, I'll contact Kelly in CS.

Again, I question the purpose of a brick and mortar store if you still have to order in sizes to try on. Easily could have taken advantage of the free shipping, ordered multiple pairs in multiple sizes online and returned the rest. Would end up costing AE more and my SM would miss out on the commission.

Itching to wear them. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow...

I was quoted 4 weeks for my B width HM, but they came in a week.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Those look very nice. Which colors are those? Are they standard 75 cm length? And, who was the vendor again?

Laccico laces.  I suggest ordering directly from their site to save money on shipping.  Colors are:  medium brown, burgundy and rosita.  The brown are 90 cm, while the burgundy are 75.  I think 75 fits my 8 D size better than 90.

Speaking of laces, Need Supply sells Alden flat laces (waxed and non waxed).  They only have black and brown.  Don't know how they compare in price to Laccacio's; they're $5, but there is also and outrageous $7.95 shipping.

I'm still searching for that one "just-right" black shoe.
I want something somewhat casual, and the ones I've got just don't fit quite as well as I'd like.
There was a pair of McGregors with a Dainite sole on Shoebank a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I should have grabbed that. The 65 last usually works fairly well for me.

Guess I was a little confused when you said "somewhat casual" - I find that I have a damn hard time with black as a casual shoe.  I have a couple that I would consider strictly casual - McTavish, Nashua & Sanibel and they happen to get extremely little use.  I finally decided on black for really dressy only and the more wild colors for casual.  I'm not a strand with denim kind of guy.  The McGregor definitely isn't the most formal but I don't think I could pull that off as casual either.

I was pissed I missed out on the black hills in black or the San Marco in black - those were both really good.  I actually think AE has some really good offerings in this area right now - the Academy, Alumnus and Oak St in black all immediately come to mind.  I'm absolutely overloaded in the casual area so I have pretty much no interest there but worth looking into.

First time poster, been lurking in this forum for a while.  I thought I would post some pics of my new Academies.  Overall I really like them, though the natural cxl is a little too light for my tastes (if they were offered in brown I would have been all over that!).  Hoping they darken somewhat, but I love the look of CXL.

I plan on wearing these with jeans and chinos; navy today, but I would be curious to know what others think about color matching.

As others have noted, the worst viewing angle is looking down at the shoes.  They look a little sleeker from the side.  I decided I like the contrast of dark laces, but still playing around there.

Apologies for the rookie mistake.  Hopefully the pics are properly embedded this time.

Natty Oak Street today.  Purchased before they were cool.

It looks like the right size to me, looking good. I've been pretty stuck on only using the lacing that comes with them. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get a colored lace for my oxblood carlyles but I may give it a go.

The San Marco is one that I've got. It's EXACTLY what I want, except that it really crowds my toes of my left foot.

Haven't frequented this thread in a long while, but I thought I would share what I am wearing today; Walnut Shell Dundees (paired with RL Chinos and J Crew Striped socks)...

I'm much more of a fan of the other American-made shoe, but this one certainly matches up well to its two eyelet competitor.

Natty HMs and coffee to keep the casual theme going this morning.
