What bothers me is when I step, my foot pushes down on the side and the ankle bone rubs against the side. I could imagine walking all day and it will make it pretty sore. It doesn't feel as snug as the 7.5 D. Maybe that is the right size for me.

I went to 2 different AE stores to get fitted, 1 in Seattle and 1 in San Francisco. One store measured and fitted me in 7.5 D, the other store fitted me in 7.5 E. Kinda weird how I measure 8 - 8.25 D on 1 brannock, and 8 - 8.25 E on another.

That is interesting because I measure 8.25 C on the Brannock, but I could never fit into a 7.5 D shoe.  My instep is probably much taller than yours is.

Anyway, if the slip is really bugging you, I would go visit a Nordstrom and try a 7.5 D again.  I think their return policy is excellent from what I hear.   You'll probably want to wear thicker socks and maybe tongue pads if you keep them.

Speaking of large heels, these arrived today and they fit a little large in the sides as well.  But they fit pretty good.  Maybe I'll wear these to Jury Duty on Monday.

I remember trying on a pair of park aves in 7.5 E at the Seattle AE store and it was too wide so that's why they sized me as a 7.5 D.

8 D actually fits me great, except in the 65 last balmorals.

My HM and Alumnus both arrived today two weeks ahead of schedule biggrin.gif

More color variation on the HM than I expected buy I think I prefer that way. Feels like I got a jump on patina. Some fat wrinkles on the shaft of the right one but doesn't concern me, even as firsts. Fit on both is spectacular (11.5 E on both) Thanks @middlepP for being a sounding board on sizing.

EDIT: Didn't even notice the "dings" on the left toe or right shaft until the pics uploaded, but as others have said CXL is gonna be CXL.

Got my HM's in today!:

Several dents, but nothing major- the fit is fantastic:

I did want to ask two construction questions. First, the eyelets on the right shoe- do they look off-centered compared to the left shoe, or within the range of acceptability:

Second, the tongue on the left shoe seems off-set. Not an issue when they're laced, but I'm wondering if the looks normal:

Sorry for all the questions, this is my first pair of boots, so I'm not sure what's normal

Golden brown CXL Maritime (11.5 E, dabondo, 1sts?, 12 D might actually work here)

I've noticed both of those on multiple pairs of shoes/boots from AE, Alden, and Red Wing.  Seems to be at least moderately common.

@orange fury I personally think you'll be fine on both fronts. Perhaps a different lacing method would help even things out. I start out under instead of over on my McGregor's and that seems to make the asymmetry a little less noticeable.

I don't know if it's the way you take photos or just luck, but you seem to hit the color jackpot. Every. Single. Time. Those look incredible. I've been debating what to do with my HM (both natty and black) and have been mulling the idea of an exchange for brown--and you just sold me on it.

As far as the eyelets, they might be ever so slightly off, but it doesn't look significant. I also noticed a similar tongue issue when I tried mine on, but again it didn't impact anything so I forgot all about it.

@bishopcraiga and @orange fury EXCELLENT!!  Both look great.

Orange, I wouldn't worry too much about the tongue, it may improve with some break-in.  Can you pull it to the right and straighten it out while wearing?  As for the eyelets, I think you're fine and as bishopcraiga mentioned you could try starting out under and out to conceal.  I also think once the CXL is nicely broken in and soft, you'll be able to pull the two sides closer making it less noticeable.

You guys got me wavering.  Still holding out hope for the Bayfield, but the anniversary of my first AE is fast approaching.  Would seem wrong not to commemorate it in some way.

These are firsts, so I would have expected them to arrive in pristine condition.

Even if these were some that had been returns, I would have expected AE to at least clean up the soles. I do realize that a single wearing myself might result in the same debris .... I just didn't expect to find beach sand on shoes straight out the box.

Having said all that, they fit great and there are no scuffs or marks that I noticed on the suede itself. I'm keeping them.

I've been skeptical and curious about this...
Have you attempted to resolve it?
Sorry if I missed posts that acknowledged said.

Hey, nicely done! Are those Macneils? Or another maker, perhaps?
