For me, it was worth a 35 mile trek from NJ to NY to meet Paul G and Skip Horween.  But there were many orders that were called into stores, or AE directly.  If the piggy bank is ready, they will get shell in your hands.

Thanks!  Last question: Do they tend to charge full price during the trunk show?

I've only seen the one in 2014.  Yes, full retail, but.  They chose a few models and offered no-MTO fee for shell in those models in 'stock' shell build.

However, they had severe QC issues, all three of my items were offered to me before shipment as seconds at spectacular omg discounts.

More than half of posters here had either multiple builds to get one pair right or paid seconds price.  Sadly, I saw 2 pairs of Natural Shell Leeds with rubber Vibram oxford soles in 15D sold by our favorite seller.  (meaning my 1 pair cost at minimum, 3 horses)

Will bet AE gets that right this time, was expensive for them and hard to watch.  Figure on either the regular pricing you see now, or a little more.

Yep, I've seen some too, although I don't exactly know what my 73 last size is. Probably a good thing for my wallet. Just ordered my sweetheart an iPhone 7+ last night!butbut.gif

Correction: the chukkas are probably Mojave 2.0 based on what is available from the NR web site. I tried to Google the style number last night, but came up with nothing. Not that this makes them any more exciting, but nonetheless I felt the need set the record straight.

Amex PSA:

I was helping my parents with online stuff tonight, and my dad has a "spend $300, get $90 back" offer on his Amex, expiring 9/30.

I do not have this one, but I used a different one in June. Time to hit up your least FBW Amex cardholders for help! smile.gif

I saw a blue Gobi at NR a few weeks ago.  There's definitely some of them floating around NR these days.

The burgundy Park Ave I saw had been incorrectly labeled with a sticker showing 8 D.  I curiously tried them on, only to discover I could barely get my foot inside.  The V was huge.  I then checked the tongue and it showed 8 B.

Never mind, I don't need to see anyone's pictures. I now have my own pair I can look at 😁

Just got my natty HMs in, trying them on around the house.

Trying them on with both thick and thin socks. The 13B is very generous in the toe, I could probably go down a width if they offered an A. Still I get it snug across the top without pulling the quarters all the way together, and it doesn't feel like my feet are sliding forward and cramping my toes. I think this is a decent replacement for the late 809 Last (alas, I barely knew ye!), though the shape is a little less refined. I think I'm really going to love these. I only wish they had come out last year before I bought my First Avenues. These are the boots I wanted all along.

@Lobster33  and @ace13x

sorry for all these sizing questions. The 7.5 E that I have, I could close the V gap all the way with no pressure. I feel a bit of heel lift and the sides where the ankle is have a slight gap. I am also getting some rubbing on the outer ankle bone I believe it is called the fibula? What do you guys think? I could stick a few fingers in there.

I take 10.5D and did not see any strands in my size until recently. Since then I've seen at least one more as well as one in 10E (which would probably work) and a few 11s (which wouldn't). So depending on your size it might be worth waiting (unless you have a weird one like 11B.

Like others said, maybe if you're somewhat loose in calf in your normal size Strands. I find it improves the instep on the 65 but doesn't much affect overall width.

I know we are post-Labor Day but with a heat index of 102, linen and specs (and goofy socks) didn't seem out of place.

Hmm, the V looks fine.  That is a bit wide in the heel, but I wouldn't worry too much unless you're getting lots of heel slip.  Is the back of your heel slipping a lot?  My Wilberts are kind of like that, which makes them not ideal, but wearable.  You could also purchase tongue pads, which would apply more pressure at the arch  and push your foot back.  No one would even know you had them on.

The 7.5 D you had might have been a better fit, but its' tough to say -- your size looks like it's in between 7.5 D and E.    In the future, I might recommend the D width and use European lacing to help close the gap.  Or, you could try going back to Nordstrom and just explain what happened and see if they will let you exchange for the D.  I remember your earlier pics of the D width, and they looked very similar to my bourbon Carlyles when I first got them.  The V will close some with wear and if you use the Euro lacing.

I feel like this has been a long time coming....

I made my first AE purchase in April of this year and due to some sizing issues and a few defects and living in Canada, it's taken until now to actually be in possession of the shoes I've purchased.

My SA really came through for me today! He drove about an hour to pick up a replacement pair of HM boots for me from another store and had them as my usual store in time for me to go in, try them, and exchange before catching my flight home. Well above and beyond in my opinion. A new definition of customer service!

For the record, I emailed the picture of the torn/missing suede on the tongue to the CAC and their response was that it was fine...

Anyway, I can finally post a picture of my shoes!

Thanks to all of you FBW's, I'm officially hooked!

I could actually close the V so both ends touch with no gap at all. When I walk I do feel heel lift. I could actually fit like 3 fingers in the side. What bothers me is when I step, my foot pushes down on the side and the ankle bone rubs against the side. I could imagine walking all day and it will make it pretty sore. It doesn't feel as snug as the 7.5 D. Maybe that is the right size for me.

I went to 2 different AE stores to get fitted, 1 in Seattle and 1 in San Francisco. One store measured and fitted me in 7.5 D, the other store fitted me in 7.5 E. Kinda weird how I measure 8 - 8.25 D on 1 brannock, and 8 - 8.25 E on another.
