I was too blinded by the shell to notice the typo.

How about I get this started? I'll submit an offer at $100 and we can go from there, until one of us #FBWs gets an acceptance.

Sounds dangerous. What if I win? Gotta save for POSSIBLE trunk show.

I think if you go that low he'll either reject it outright (without countering), or he'll catch on that people are teaming up against him after a few progressively higher bids come in from different people. I have no particular loyalty to him, but he's always treated me fairly and provided good pictures and accurate descriptions of his stuff, so I wouldn't try to take advantage of him. But ultimately it's up to each person what they want to offer, and it's up to him what he'll accept.

Mailman just brought them.

Pretty much all week I'd been resigning myself to the fact that they must be seconds and the seller forgot to mention it. Nope. As soon as I got the box I checked and no marking on the box, opened it up and no little shoe icon burned into the soles. They're firsts. Brand new in box, unlaced, with the paper still inside. I don't think anyone ever even tried them on before.

Beautiful boots. Surprisingly they were ever so slightly loose, but that's actually good because I tried them on with thin nylon dress socks and in reality I'd probably wear them with my thicker merino dress socks so should be perfect. Other thing I noticed is since they're brown country grain, the toe area on the one boot has embossing that is slightly less deep than the other, but I only notice that when holding the boot right in front of my face. Otherwise they're absolutely flawless. Will definitely be my go to shoe for the office when it's raining or snowing.

Look good, can see what you are talking about but from the ground to eye level I doubt its noticeable. You can check the box to see if the model number has an S at the end of it. This will denote seconds.

There's a brown shell strand in the ShoeBank, one width too narrow for me. I clicked around a bit, and there don't seem to be many others in the bank. How often can a pair like that be expected to pop up?

Also, there seems to be a lot of black shell in the ShoeBank. Is that likely because of the "dressy color, casual material" conundrum?

They actually had it in both sizes I prefer but when the SA described 1 to me it wasn't a ringing endorsement while the other looked great. Brown certainly appears less but it is also available on fewer shoes. I see black and burgundy appear about the same amount at least in my sizes. I don't see any issue with black other than the conundrum you stated but aside from the PA I'm not sure black shell is too casual for the rest. I actually like the black shell PA I received but there were too many imperfections and I loved the black Hopkinsons...

I personally don't own any shell, but if I were to buy shell, it would be a shade of brown/burgundy. Partially for the casual material/formal color issue, but I mainly think the color variations in shell are too neat for me to want to mask it with black. If that makes sense.

OH, MAN!  A couple pairs of Broadstreets appeared on the Shoe Bank today in my size. And, oh, what a price! Must resist!

No S.

And yes, I have to strain to see the toe difference from ground to eye level, so would be virtually impossible for someone a couple of feet away to see.

While you can submit a low offer, you should remember that he literally has 1000 shoes listed and will probably not go back and forth excessively on offers. You should also remember that Ebay has a 3 bid maximum. You will need to wrap up the purcahse within those 3 bids or you will be blocked from further offers.

You actually got them for $100?

Scratch that, they are still there at time of this post.

@gm928 and @smfdoc, my initial statement about starting at $100 was said tongue in cheek... As was a previous post about offering 130% of asking price... As was this last post.

I have had my eye on a shell boot or chukka, and would be happy with a minor defect at 1/2 price - but can't justify making a purchase until I lock in my fit on the 511 last. I've tried calf Daltons in 8.5E, 9D, 9E, 9.5B and 9.5D (settled on 9D). Next attempt will be 10B.

Then again, shell does fit slightly looser than calf... #FBWs
