So sorry to hear.  We have two boxers and the threat of cancer scares the shit out of me.

Time for R&R: Return & Reorder. I've learned to order in pairs so I get a good shoe.

Today was a great day. Got a promotion (along with a healthy increase in compensation) and my first experience with shell.

I love the way these look, I believe they are 2nds because of a minor crease in the upper that's not noticeable when wearing pants.

My concern is width. I wear a 10E but there was only burgundy shell in 10D or 10.5D. I ordered both D width, the 10.5 has more room but is too long and the upper cuts my ankle. The 10 is great length wise but just a bit narrow. Not uncomfortable, but pretty snug. And for instance, I can feel my big toe rub the inside of the boot.

Will the shell form or should I send them back? Love the shoes but don't want to make a $400 mistake....

Sorry to hear Tex. Hope she pulls through.

I just got my pair of Hopkinson seconds from the shoebank sale and I am on the fence about them. They look great with the exception of some noticeable creasing near the laces. Should I return these and try my luck at another pair of seconds or should I consider myself lucky?[/IMG]

I got a great deal on these (i.e. don't have a lot of money in them), but still pretty demoralizing. Has anyone dealt with this? Should I fix at home or go to the cobbler? If home remedy, what kind of adhesive are we talking? Argh...

I would post your question to the the shoe care thread:

But I believe its a nice clean tear like it seems you have, barge cement is the preferred repair glue.

There is an older formula that people say works better than the current non VOC formula, but as this not a structural repair, you may be fine with the new formula.

Decided to try on the HM and Academy I've got sitting here and I think I've answered my own question. The 10D is too narrow. I need a wider fit.

But goddamn are these HMs comfortable!!

10E might be your best option (unfortunate as that may be with the ShoeBank inventory), but the tricky part is if the 10D's fit well in the shaft, the 10E may be loose.  My own pair are 8D (I wouldn't describe them quite as snug as you do yours), I probably would feel better about 8E, but then the top of the shaft is quite open due to just having 3 eyelets.  Like you, 8.5D was width wise in the forefoot, but too long.

I would try a 10E to be sure (what are the chances a retail store has one?), but unfortunately you may be stuck with an imperfect fit, weather its 10D, 10E or 10.5D.

Shell does not really stretch much and I would not count on them changing much if any. I would personally dial in the fit with a different pair while they are new.

I just got in a pair of Hopkinsons from the shoebank and they are nearly perfect, only flaw is hardly a flaw and its not visible. I think you can probably get better but my preferred method is to have a SA look over the shoe and tell me what the issue is. Caleb at the tanger outlet in the SC Charleston store described the shoes exactly to me and when they arrived it was like he said for both pairs. Chris at the Port Washington shoebank will order in shoes to take a look at them for you. Both have been great to work with.

I think most of you remember me asking opinions between a Banana Republic belt or Manistee belt in merlot for my Merlot McAllisters. Turns out the Manistee is a darker shade than the shoes and the BR belt actually matches better lol. Then I saw that the Manistee actually matches pretty well, and probably better, with my brown Cornwallis shoes. Do you guys think the Manistee with the Cornwallis is a good match? Because the Cornwallis doesn't have a lot of perforation like the McAllister does. AE does say in their catalog that it's a good match but I want to hear what SF has to say. Thanks!
