Nice! Did you go directly through C&J mail order or did you pick it up in a local retailer?

Question for the forum:  I love my brown grain Leeds.  Is there a type of clothing, or a place/situation, to which one would wear burgundy shell cordovan Leeds, but for which brown grain Leeds would be less appropriate?

There is a GTMO for navy shell boots forming on the C&J thread. I'm very tempted to join, as the price is going to be around the same as shell Dalton firsts. Bit I think I'm just going to wait on the Bayfield.

Funny thing happened to me today.  Last October I bought 3 sneakers from Colehaan.com.  I had them on the shelves but today I decided to wear one of the sneakers.  Well....the box said 12D and the shoes said 10.5D.  I can't believe it's been almost a year and I never noticed this.  This just goes to show you when you have shoes you haven't worn, theres an issue!

Thinking about returning the Natural Chromexcel boots and getting the brown boots instead...I like the look of them immediately out of the box, and I understand that the leather is more prone to showing creases, knicks and scrapes, but after googling pictures of natural chromexcel boots, Im starting to see that after a couple of wears, it "patinas" to the point that the natural chromexcel flat out begins to look like sloppy construction/work boots. Not trying to look like I just stepped off an oil rig, so these might go back so I can replace them with brown.

And I wish these people would stop putting the W stickers on the insole of the shoes.  It leaves a nasty residue on the shoe that is hard to remove.

Zippo fluid would work to remove the glue residue, but I can understand how you might be hesitant to use that. You could try Lexol or AE Leather Lotion. The oils in those might help soften and release the glue.

Went through Lauren at C&J who does the GMTO orders (but I surely could've just as easily done the mail order via the CJ website). They come out to be much cheaper to have them shipped from the UK than trying to buy them somewhere in the US.

It depends a lot on how you wear them, how you care for them and, of course, what your expectations are.

I brush the crap out of mine - a while after wear and a bit before wearing - but moreso, plus the damp rag + long brushing on occasion.  Scratches are addressed by rubbing firmly with my finger and brushing.  I don't think my natty Indys look like construction boots, but they are definitely a patina-boot.  Brown will be a slightly different version of this:

Thanks alot for relaying your experience to me. Ill see if the patinability of the natural cxl grows on me a little more.

Yes, the reason I asked is because I want to get a pair dark brown cordovan Skye boots and figured it made more financial sense to order through the UK due to the Ex VAT and current exchange rate. I contacted the mail order group via their website just yesterday but don't expect to hear back until at least Tuesday due to the holiday over there. Would it be best to reach out directly to Lauren for this and if so where would I get her contact info?

Thanks!

I'm not telling you to keep them - I'm mainly saying brown won't fix the "shows bumps and scratches" (which are very often fixable vs. calf with no products other than a good brush) nature of CXL by going brown, and that my natty CXL broke me of the "keep it looking new" thing.  I've got a lot more patina running in my rotation these days, and I'm a fan of the texture it offers.  Honestly, if I didn't have the natty Alden Indys I would have bought the natty HM already.

Just my $0.02.

In my shoe journey so far, just one size mistake. These. And I love them too much to give them up. Bitter chocolate suede Cavanaugh *sigh*

The current Brooks Brothers $499 suit sale is sort of making me regret having spent all my money on shoes recently. BB 1818 suits for $499 is hella tempting.

Just received a pair of Oak Street's in blue via USPS...man are they riddled with surface damage.  Dents in the leather all over, look like they were laced up in some weird fashion at some point.  Going to have to call for an RMA on them tomorrow.  Anyone experience something similar on these?  Hoping it is just this one pair.

Only one size of first quality bourbon Strands at Nordstrom. Only size 10.5 D and for $198. Anybody that's size 10.5 D and doesn't have the Strand in bourbon should consider getting it. I know I would if they had my size...
