Oh sorry, I was referring to Shoebank.

Found a pair of Merlot Strands, but I already own burgundy Nathans- how close are burgundy and merlot?

I actually saw another person wearing AE shoes in my office today. Black Riversides from the looks of it. He's a software sales / account representative, so he should have the money for them. They looked too big on him judging by the gap between the back of his shoe and the back of his foot. When I complimented his shoes and asked the model, he didn't know off hand... clearly he's not a subscriber to this thread.

On the subject of Riversides... anyone who might have them in a color other than black care to share some pictures? Also, looks like 7 last. Can I get confirmation? Thanks.

Have (rather, had... I sold the Nathans) both... I thought the burgundy was darker than the merlot.  Pattern aside, the burgundy felt more formal.

Sold the Nathans due to fitment... bit of pinky toe pain.  Great looking shoe, though.  Seeing your posts is like seeing an attractive ex who was just too crazy to keep around.  But man, you had some good times.

Yes- this is the biggest issue I've run into with loafers from Shoebank. I had three pairs of Patriots I went through that all got differently in the same size (still a horrible fit), two pairs of Cavanaughs that were too small (I ended up getting 1sts), and a pair of Graysons that were way too big (compared to what I tried on in the store)

For me it depends on what you tend to wear. I have brown and natty CXL carpenter/work boots (JCrew Kenton and Alden Indy, respectively - If I'd known Higgins Mill was coming I would have waited instead of buying the JCrew...anyway).

Some random thoughts:

The natty boots are my favorite - they're getting better with age, they're different and they just have a visual texture that I have come to really love. The only thing is they don't work well for me with khakis - it seems a little bit too tone-on-tone and that looks wierd to me (I don't have great fashion sense though). But with jeans they have an old-world look I really like. It is the reason I'm going to talk myself into a pair of Academy in narry CXL sooner than later.

My brown boots go easily with jeans/chinos/khakis, and they look good. That versatility is really attractive - but they don't jump out as much.

If I didn't have either of these and I was buying just one, I'd probably get the natty cxl. AE's looks a little darker and less creamy than my Aldens did when I first got them, and the unusual factor is the tie-breaker.

Lastly, recognize that Chromexcel is a journey - they are patina-forward and evolve. If you don't like it when your shoes don't look new any more, I'd stop thinking about these boots. I'm loving the patina-process on these - wish I had a slot to put the Higgins Mill in...

I have a pair of oxblood Iron Rangers so I'm leaning natty because brown would be somewhat redundant, but I'm still waiting on someone to post up pics of the natty HM from a few different angles to really get a good idea of how it looks. The brown one reviewed at dappered looks great
