Yeah, that happens.  Variation within the same size is common.  One of my Carlyle's fits much tighter than the others.  Been using various stretchers and they are helping, but it's still not as good of a fit as my other Carlyles.

I was eyeing a pair of merlot Hopkinsons for a few weeks and finally as they were getting towards the end of the 2nd or 3rd auction, I put up a bid of $85 and he quickly accepted.  I hate that I still have to wait for him to ship to me, even though his warehouse is probably 15 mins from my house.

wat a deal! i would love to get a pair of hopkinsons for that price. would love to see some pics when you receive them.

I know this isn't an AE post but I just wanted to share this and say how crazy it is that Cole Haan keeps increasing their prices and now they're up to $400!! With that kind of money you can buy 2 Allen Edmonds shoes on sale. Does anyone actually pay full retail for this? I mean I have some Cole Haans that I've gotten on deep sales but 400 bucks is just absurd.

My story was similar, though in the opposite direction.  MD's sizing guide said to disregard WL's sizing guide... so I went with MD's... and the larges they recommended for sizes 9.5-11 US wouldn't fit a boring old 10D 65 lasted shoe (even with a shoehorn, when tested for thoroughness).

The mediums they sent after weeks of haggling and further weeks of delay have a few millimeters of wiggle room... so for my 65s I now exclusively use the model that AE stocks in house (buying opportunistically from JosABank and WL when on sale).

The Epics are pretty though... and look much nicer sticking out of the shoe than the AE stock model... the fit is just disappointing (for me).

The days of ordering single or group MTOs without any sort of surcharge are long gone, in afraid. Except for the occasional cordovan special promotion...

Thanks for the heads up. Snagged 2 pair. I would get more but then all my other trees would go unused or make me buy even more shoes. Given that in the last 3 days I've purchased a chili Leiden weave, shannon drives from ebay store, blue nuemoks from our favorite seller, and chili rogue from ebay store I think there might be a problem. I might be hoping some of them don't fit properly. I passed on the Cornwallis in chili during the Nordstrom anniversary sale only to fall victim to the Leiden (which I personally like more as long as the last is friendly to me). Chili rogue might fill that same slot as the leiden weave so strong possibility one goes back.

Do you guys think this will cause a problem long term?

PSA on the Woodlore deal- use code "WELCOME" for 25% off on top of the BOGO- I just paid $79.52 for 8 pairs. $9.94/pair isn't bad at all.

I didn't know they had a picture gallery on their site. Thanks for mentioning it @harlequin782. Pretty cool! I definitely see a bunch of pics I recognize @peppercorn78. Though... this has me thinking that I need to take better/cooler pictures. Mine are never intended to be great photography - rather give everyone in this thread a non-stock, in the wild pic (along with some feedback on pics).

@St Hubbins

You should invest in heather grey v neck under shirts. It won't show through your shirts and you won't look like the IT nerd who doesn't know how to dress (Coming from another IT nerd)

Would agree... though grey will show through white shirts on the occasion that you wear one and wish to conceal natural skin discolorations.  (I have nipples, Greg.  Can you milk me?)

Which is why I roll with the white v's - deep enough to not be seen, but not so deep as to be strange looking (in my view).
