No great reason. TBH it didn't really come up, because we were talking about copying a coat in the shop that I liked the look of.

I don't have an Aeropress but I've had a lot of luck with a French press. Cheap to start too, get a French press from IKEA ($10) and a Porlex hand grinder ($70) and you're sweet.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that without an oversized notch lapel, it's not a pea coat.

Or in other words, if one is aiming for a classic aesthetic, there is no place for a notch lapel such as one finds on jackets, nor for a peak lapel.

If classic doesn't matter, one can of course opt for a collar of any configuration on any coat.

I am feeling just as warm with my notch lapel as with an oversized one. It may bother you, but "aiming for a classic aesthetic" was not remotely on my list of priorities. I'm gratified that I have your permission to have a notch lapel.

Sigh I don't think my wife would allow me such accessories.

Regretfully, I think you may have misunderstood me. I was simply stating my thoughts on what does and doesn't constitute a pea coat, and was open to anyone pointing out that I may be wrong.

I have no concern with what you, personally, choose to wear. I also have nothing against coats with a standard notch lapel and think yours is a fine example. I never made a suggestion of what you, personally, should or shouldn't wear. Rather, I provided comment on what one might "best" choose if one is classically inclined, but that the world is your oyster for choice if you don't care for traditional details or what is sartorially "correct".

I am sure your coat is very warm and hope you have many years wearing it well.
