TEN TIES, FIVE JACKETS (10/5 THREAD): Fall-Winter Edition - Page 17

yesterday -

Love the versatility of this tie

My wife is a talented photographer and almost all the pictures that I post in SF or on my blog has been taken by her. But of course it is not always that interesting for her, especially when the photographs essentially just documents garments. I liked the idea of this thread immidiately and now that it has been opened up I asked my wife if she could take the pictures, even if it's not very rewarding from a photographer's perspective (basically taking the same picture 10 times). But she said that she would do it, but on one condition: she picks all the ties and jackets. So below you will find my contribution, curated by Mrs Diplomatic Ties. She did not necessarily pick things that I would have picked, but at the same time I can certainly see myself wearing all the fits.

Spring has arrived here in Geneva where I live, but we stuck to the fall-winter theme. Would love to see the same idea recycled for a spring-summer edition.

Let's start with the elements. First the jackets:

Hackett - Hackett - Arnys - Caruso - Isaia

Then the ties:

Viola Milano - Freeman's Sporting Club - Attolini - Drake's - Berg & Berg

Barutti - Borrelli - Emma Willis - Borrelli - Tie Your Tie

And finally the ps as a bonus:

Cucinelli - Bigi - Vanda - Berg & Berg - Eton - Drake's - Rose & Born

You are a lucky guy, @DiplomaticTies. If I asked my wife to do this, she'd look at me as if I had lost my mind. My sartorial journey is walked alone.

DipTies, I think I might prefer your wife's combos to yours... biggrin.gif

She seems like a good sport certainly. Kudos to her, DT.

Heads up to all

There will be a 10/5 S/S edition.

I'm going to relax the requirement on odd jackets though I'd like people to emphasize it if they can (that's a selfish request). But suits are welcome and indeed, will add variety. When fall comes round, I'll ask for updates here and open it up to F/W suiting.

Ok. The plan is end of May, so at least three weeks to prep, think about it, etc. I'm going to ask the initial set of posters here to post within the first 24 hours after which, the thread will open up and everyone is warmly invited to add their input. Everyone who is interested has time to prep

Shout out to (in no particular order)

Why invites? (Click to show)
This has irked some, and I understand why.

Let me emphasize that most of these folks I've interacted with in a positive way here in SF in that I've learned something from their examples, thoughts, etc., often behind the scenes through discussion on PM or in other media, in Mike and Greg's case, actually visiting and taking up their time. They set and/or aspire to the same or similar CM-standards as I do, so I'd like the gravity of the thread to be skewed in that direction and I know they will help. As OP, I'm exercising a bit of content control.

For those of you who enjoy SF threads, pop in to drop a comment or just peruse, note that it is very hard to establish new threads where the content is useful and interesting, and has some legs (i.e. lasts for more than 3-5 days). It takes actual work. I know @Academic2 or @Claghorn can attest to that (see Academic and necktie threads, which are great threads BTW).

But to emphasize the openness of the thread, everyone now has a heads up and the thread will be open 24 hours after the first post.

Sounds good.  Thanks, TweedyProf.

Can those of you below who might have something ready say by June 1 drop me a PM? This will be for a 10/5 SS edition. No worries if you've contacted me recently, but want to get about 10-15 initial entries when the thread opens. I know it's been cold in the NE and indeed, perhaps all over the country. Let me know if you'll need more time etc.

Cheers

I have a fairly shallow S/S wardrobe with regards to suits and jackets, but if you'll allow me to deviate from your prescriptions while staying true to the spirit, I'll be happy to play

Let me know by PM what you mean, but sure. I'm happy not to be rigid. I take it you'll wear something over the next 4 months that are seasonally appropriate and that will do. Tweed in Texas in the summer sounds a bit unbearable.

Sorry for the delay. I'm spending time working outside the US so been a bit busy. @Mr. Six has kindly agreed to put push the 10/5 S/S edition, so I hope in a few weeks we might be able to dogged started...for some of you, S/S has been slow in coming so the delay isn't so bad (Aussie comrades, sorry that the thread is out of sync for you, season wise, tyranny of the Northern hemisphere).

Anyway, I know some of you are ready to go (great, and thanks). Everyone who is interested is invited to post, though we might just have the first set of posts by some of the contributors here. More details to follow soon. And thanks to Mr. Six for contributing in this way.

Excellent.  I’m ready any time.

Enjoy your time abroad— I’m jealous, being stuck at home this summer.

Cheers,
