I have a question. How would someone like me and, I assume, 90% of the people in here  (with no real contacts - apart from the Double Monk and Harrolds guys down here) be able to turn up and go to things? I wouldn't want to go all the way there just to stay in my room.

I think they have a visitors pass now, but I'm not sure really. You can probably find out on pittiimmagine.com. Mostly it's supposed to be for buyers/sellers and media.

I'm only going on blogs and photoessays, but it does seem that peacocks are on the wane at Pitti.

I wonder whether the whole peacocking, lounging-around-the-Wall-to-get-blogged phenom wasn't itself created or at least fuelled by the bloggers. When did bloggers start invading Pitti anyway? Maybe five years ago?

Given that lead time, I think savvy bloggers would by now be sensing that to continue building their online reputation, it's no longer enough to fill one's pages with bearded harlequins.

Wrist candy seems to be fading away too. Actually I didn't mind this, in fact I thought it was rather cool, but hey, it was a fad, and such things have a lifespan.

I did like all the fedoras and baker's-boy caps this year. Generally speaking I would love to see a resurgence of hats in menswear. This is definitely one area where hipsters have been ahead of the curve.

I also follow the watch fairs. SIHH has just wrapped in Geneva and it seems the trend away from outrageousness and back towards a more sombre aesthetic grounded in the classics, was in evidence there too. Design lead times are longer in the watch industry and there are still some embarassingly large spaceship-like timepieces being released, but the overall trend is strongly tilting back to the classical.

I think we have to give credit to Scott Schuman. When he first started shooting Pitti, Milan and Florence, about 10 years ago, and shooting some very stylish and elegant gents, he was also the first to include Lino at Al Bazar and a few others who showed a bit more of an "expressive" style and who quickly became known to a whole new international audience for being eye-candy for The Sartorialist and the many emerging #menswear bloggers.

+1. S. Schuman was the first photographer to bring this type of imagery to the masses (at least one my recollection). I think he could do a menswear book very nicely.
