Buying clothes to land women

I'm sure everyone can agree that we've all seen the pinnacle of sexiness here in our own WAWYT thread, but for when Saucemaster isn't indulging us with pictures of himself in a flower-print dress and sunglasses, we have to look for the "real thing": women...

Posting this poll because nearly every time someone makes a post concerning the relationship between wearing clothes and landing women, they're met with some pretty vicious knee-jerk responses, firmly informing them that looking good is a self-satisfying hobby and has no connection to getting women to like you.

I'm curious to hear everyone's responses here. I, for one, certainly appreciate the shallower gratification of looking nice (when Sauce isn't around showing leg, ******* up my game) that I find in being complimented and receiving attention from women.

RESPOND! And explain (i.e. if you're asexual, why?).

I get compliments from both men and women on my appearance, but I'd say that it's pretty obvious that I am interested in clothing in and of itself. That is, unless I have some warped notion that women are impressed by a guy with a much larger wardrobe they they have, and who insists that no two pair of dark jeans are the same. Plus, I am married, and I am pretty sure that my wife frowns on my landing other women.

A little harmless jealousy can spice up a stagnant relationship, don't you think?

I don't care which evolutionary psychologist you read, but they'll pretty much all agree that nobody does anything for the pure interest in doing it. Whether you're trying to display dominance over other men or attract women, there's much more than meets the eye to guys who don't wear sweat pants every day.

So when you're not around women, you don't wear pants?

I'm always around women. They love to feel my slubs.

Yeah, I like dressing nice to get attention from girls, but it’s also for myself (it’s an expression of who I am) and other men (signifier of social status etc.)

I dress well because I enjoy doing so, not because I'm trying to land women. I think working out and maintaining good personal hygiene attracts more women than an impressive wardrobe.

I would imagine that women find a clean, physically fit individual wearing A&F far more attractive than some ***** wearing bespoke clothing.

Maybe, but the guy wearing A&F is wearing A&F for the same reason the fat guy is wearing bespoke: to get chicks.

I think you would have to be completely ego-less to claim that you dress solely for yourself without regard for what other people, particularly women, think.

That said, there is a very tenuous connection between dressing well and attracting a woman's romantic interest. To the extent there is any connection, it is to get the woman to say to herself, "Hmm, this guy is different from all the other drones in the bar, I wonder what his story is." Indeed, the clothing of mine that garners the most compliments from women are items that a "normal" guy would not typically wear (e.g., velvet blazer, orange moleskin pants, loud plaid Kiton sportscoat, pocket square, Miu Miu patterned shirt).

Women very rarely notice dark suits and nice shoes.

I don't care to enter the minds of either individual. What I'm trying to say is that I don't consider my wardrobe has having a huge impact on my ability to attract women. I would say personal hygiene, charisma, and physical fitness are all more important than what I wear. As a result, I dress more for myself than for others.

Okay Casanova, so you need absolutely no help from clothing, but what about us pauper types that don't have perfect bone structure, and who's hair looks better hiding under a hard-hat than done up with mousse? I personally consider it very importantly. To me, a good fit means it makes me look more attractive. That's pretty much the core of it. Of course my own taste of what I deem attractive to women is going to be different from the muscly guy who wears A&F, because we're trying to attract different women, but..
