Mike,

Thanks my friend.

They are actually Whiskey Shell Cordovan.

A Ravello pair are very high up my list for sure.

These are on the darker side of the whiskey spectrum.

Have a great week my friend.

What size are you in the LHS? I have a pair in Ravello, size 7.5D, that I've worn maybe 4 or 5 times in the past two years and I am planning on letting go.

Chris

Very cool! I've been looking for a pair in pebble grain. Can you tell me what store these are from?

Going with black shell today because tomorrow is walnut Wednesday. Meanwhile, my business partner wears rubber sole bicycle-toe shoes.... Every day..... Till they die.

Gotcha, yeah, they are on the darker end of the Whiskey spectrum, but I can see them as being classified as Whiskey. Best of luck with your Ravello hunting, I am hoping that some Ravello Shells make it to Middleborough soon!

I don't know the reference but the Tankers are looking good! Always nice to see the Antiqued 8 Tanker.

Chris, you did well with those and are correct. It's a nice design and color and looks good on the LHS.

My new favorite Alden eBay listing. "Decent condition for age. The leather is split on one tongue. Lots of life left in these all leather shoes." This must be what happens when you force a size 8.5 on your size 11 foot.

Thanks ALL for noting my Ravello and Whiskey LHSs. Actually, the LHS are BNIB, tried on once. Thinking seriously of letting Whiskey go (10.5D) since color is SO close to my Ravellos. Seen together, they are very similar...

It's why I let that shade/pair of Ravello LHS go in the first place. It's slightly light, so a bit close to whiskey shell.

But I still somewhat regret returning a pair of Ravello CT boots. Oh well...

Whiskey does tend to darken and become a rich shade over time. However, the way whiskey and Ravello develop can vary a great deal. Enjoy!

@Profligate47 I totally understand your dilemma. Sometimes it gets hard to rationalize all of the similar looking pairs that we have.

@smoothie1 Sorry to hear that you regret returning those Ravello CT Boots! It is interesting to see how they patina for sure. It will be interesting to see how this newer darker Whiskey patina a as well!

Have a good one.

Thanks Mike. In person, they look more alike, and I'm sure will continue to do so as they age. Will probably sell one of these... Votes?

Just FYI - there was a time when Alden San Francisco did not differentiate between whiskey and Ravello. Everything in the shade spectrum light and dark was sold as "whiskey" I believe.

If the whiskey is light and flawless, consider keeping them. I have found batches of whiskey commonly come in too dark. Ideally they should come in light, accentuating the clear shell, so you can enjoy darkening them with wear, exposure to sun, and patina. Few other makers execute a whiskey shell as well as Alden when Alden does it right!
