I'm curious how many people blacken the soles of some of the stock models like the 9016? They come in black and I was initially thought I preferred the unfinished sole. But then, after some wearing are wear, I gave it a quick wipe with black edge dressing and it was instantly back to that unmarked look. Now I suddenly appreciate the ability to get them back to looking new. So is this practice a common thing? I can't believe I would be alone and am curious what other coloring might be used.

Been a while since I have been around here...Congrats! Best of luck to you and your daughters foot size :) I have a few pair of shoes on the do not sell list that my young boys have said they loved..so if they get into the 12-13 size range they will have some beauties.

I know longer work in an office starting this June...I now have an office space in a friends house as he is never there...so I find myself just wearing my gym clothes...sort of sucks to see my Filson gym bag doing nothing and all my great shoes laying lonely...I am not going to make any rash moves until after the winter and I see if I can muster the strength to put jeans and boots on.

I just picked up a pair of new Natural CXL LHS with white stitching on the welt and toe box from AoM and the stitching has black marks all around the heel and front welt, as well as, on the toe box stitching which looks like they occurred during the manufacturing process from either the machinery used or the fact the machinery was not cleaned prior to this run.  Is this common?  Should I be concerned or is this common due to the manufacturing process and can be expected with white stitching.  Similar marks occur on both shoes as shown in my pics.

Never seen that before. You can try cleaning the stitching, or send them back to AoM. I would probably return for another pair.

Really? Aren't those stitches and the welt just gonna get dirty with wear anyway? Maybe they're polish, and some Reno can clean it up a bit.

@peppercorn78, My sentiments are similar.

I am thinking of performing a cleaning process but being its CXL I do not believe you are to use RENO due to the oils in the leather.  I totally get they are going to get dirty over time, but I would expect the stitches to take on a browner hue over time compared to what is likely to happen is the black spots continue to get darker rather than the stitching ageing evenly across.

I'm debating on using Saddle Soap and a welt brush to see what I can get off and then treating with Saphir Greasy Leather Cream in Neutral. (Ideal cleaning products supposedly for CXL)

At this point I do not think I am concerned enough to return (worn two day already and starting to put creases in the leather) but wanted to hear from the group if:

1) They have seen this before and it's normal on lighter shade shoes with white stitching due to manufacturing process

2) Is this a QA issue from the factory

3) If others have had similar issues were they able to minimize the discoloration through cleaning prior and what process worked for them best. (Before I attempt to make a guess at it.)
