Suede captoes from BB. Snap last is amazing. To me it seems that the cap on the right shoe is a slightly lighter shade of brown. Does anyone else see this? Should this bother me?

On a related note, a lot of the Alden bros gave me some good ideas for purging this past winter.

Just wanted to update you guys on what I parted with. Overall, it’s been great passing on some models that I just don’t wear enough to some bros who could get some use out of them. I love collecting just as much as the next addict, but I’ve realized that having a closet full of shoes you just don’t get any use out of is pointless after a while (Gasp! Heresy!)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still way over what a sane person would consider normal, but at least a little thinning has been done.

Over the past 4-5 months, my most worn styles have been: Color 8 Plaza Tanker (dark edge), Color 8 Barrie WT Boot, Color 8 Barrie Tanker (light edge), Black Shell Tanker, LS Ultimate Indy.

Off to new homes Since Dec 2015:

1. Alden 975 x leffot with antique edge & brass
2. Alden Black Shell Indy with brass
3. Alden x Leathersoul color 8 Shell Plaza wingtip boot
4. Alden x Leathersoul Vintage Indy
5. Alden x Epaulet Ironside Indy
6. Alden 990 PTB
7. Alden x B&M Regina grain LWB
8. Alden burnished tan WT boot
9. Alden snuff suede Indy
10. Alden x Supply&Advise Blue CXL Indy
11. Red Wing Heritage Copper R&T

I think I have 2-4 models to go...

On this note, this year has been very active for me on the Alden front with a number of new models in, including some preorders I didn't think would materialize. I filled some significant gaps, but I'm now past my Alden limit, so I plan to do some spring cleaning this week.
So far this year, I have acquired
Color 8 Straight Tip Captoe (workhorse; awesome burgundy shade)
Tan Calfskin Medallion Captoe on Modified Last (sleeper hit)
Whiskey Tanker (unicorn)
Whiskey Monk Strap (unicorn)
CXL Conservation Boot
In addition, I have a Color 8 LHS on 9.5EE that just arrived at a retailer (I've wanted that model for years) and a cigar preorder that should arrive in the fall

Over the past few months, most worn models have been
Alden 990, Color 8 Captoe, Black Captoe, Modified Tan Captoe, Cigar Indy, J Gilbert Snuff Plaza Wingtip

I plan on selling as many as five models... The LS Conservation Boot is the most likely to go as CXL boots are easy to come by and I can replace them as the fall approaches

I also want to sell one of my three "unicorns"... Gents, if you had to sell one of these, which would you? I have an idea of which one will go, but I wanted to take a poll
Whiskey Tanker
Whiskey Monk Strap
Cigar Indy

I always figured that beyond simple rarity, a defining characteristic of "unicorn" is that it is something you'd never part with.  Or maybe

difficult to acquire = unicorn and

difficult to acquire x personal preference = grail.

mdubs thanks for the well thought out informative reply. (1) I understand this point and do remember the days before the hype train was getting ready to leave the station and finding the special tweaks were a treat, something we all considered unique. I just love an antique or 'redwood' finish with black shell. (2) I respect this point the most out of the 3. This is America and they have every right. (3) Is what I fear...some Jabronie siting with an excel spreadsheet saying that if this cut is made "the 4 quarter is going to give back an extra .002%".

I have no dog in this fight. But if anyone feels the jury is out on an antique/natural/wood style finish w/ black shell, here are some pics of the black indy shell boot I had some work done too. Going to post more pics next week when they are up in the rotation.

In the shade,

The sexy bottoms, It is my favorite way to really look at shoe construction. Hand welted on a leather footbed. Triple ribbed Wishbone shank secured with brass rivet. Dr.Soul raw cord half soul and heel, double stitched, secured with brass rivets. What do you guys think?

I love this!!

I'd part with any pair for the right price. I don't think that plays a role in the idea of a "unicorn".

Something seemingly impossible to get would be a unicorn. Along the lines of the 12 pair, once in a blue moon "sorry I sold these all to my bros" releases that come out every now and then. stirpot.gif

Hey everyone! After buying a pair of Wolverine 1000 mile boots. I decided on a pair of Alden's to go along in rotation.

I purchased a pair of brand new Alden Michigan Innsbruck boots in size 11.5, they use the Innsbruck commando sole. Chromexcel brown leather.

I got a deal at $260.00.

But, it was my own mistake... I thought they were Indy boots. I was rushing and purchased them. They are nice! But, now I feel like I am not getting a good boot.

Are the ankle boots?

Still durable like the Indy?

If some one has the Michigan and Indy, could you post a side by side?

Thanks for all the help everyone. They are being shipped tomorrow. And will have them shortly.

The Michigan boot is the Indy boot's somewhat less-rounded brother.  They're really nice, and it sounds like you got the Epaulet version, which is a really nice makeup.

$260 is a truly outstanding deal new.  Wear and enjoy!

They're Aldens. Therefore, they're good boots. I don't own the Michigan boots but if they're the cxl on commando then they are a great boot and will serve you will for many years. Get a pair of indys in the future (or tomorrow) and you'll be pleased. Enjoy the boots as they will look better and better with every wear.

Epaulet, That's exactly what is in the in sole. I'm looking forward to them. I guess I will just have to get some Indy's next go around.

Great boot. Enjoy in good health or sell them to me for what you paid!

Ravello LHS

I hope I like them, I guess I am just worried because I have a pair of Shoe passion No. 601's and they are kind of like a chukka boot. Quality is ridiculously good. But they just don't have that thick boot leather. But are beautiful shoes nonetheless. But I knew they were not meant for rugged wear before I got them.

The more I look at these Alden Michigan with the commando sole the more I like them. They are definitely rugged looking.

Great looking Cap Toes Mosy. The colors look pretty similar to me, but the right is a pidge lighter, you could just try a suede brush to change the direction of the knap.

Looking great Joe, those boots are superb. They are just a narrow toe stitch away from my most frequently worn makeup, the Frans Indy.

Happy Monday!

Looking stellar this fine Monday morning in your Whiskey LWBs. I need to get my Whiskey Gunboats out and about a little more often.

Picked these up from Alden of Carmel, super conformable. Color 8, antique edges & commando sole

Larry, those Color 8 PT Boots are looking good. A good combination of design with the Antique Edge on the PT pattern.
