Well, that is a good only Alden to own. I hope that you enjoy them and have the opportunity and desire to get more.

Those are superb Zippy. I am with Saz, the old school machine stitching is a rad twist on the Shell Indy.

Whiskey LHS's at the office today..

Congrats Chippy on the fish. I am sorry Mr. Fish, you have had better days. Your Whiskeys are looking great, but I too wouldn't wear Whiskey that close to a lake or river...

Not sure why this didn't come through with the last quote, but they look equally nice Zippy. Those are rather funky socks. :-)

Vass calls it Cigar, but it isn't. Cigar is exclusive to Alden, per Horween.

What is it then? I've seen recent Vass "cigar" makeups, including a recent one by an SF regular that look pretty identical to recent Alden cigar shades. They do also currently source "dark cognac," which as you know is the same as CJ, AE brown. But Kuti was clear with me that those terms Horween used in the transaction. is it possible that the exclusivity has lapsed, or maybe that there are two different colors that Horween is calling "cigar?"

Interesting. I have yet to order shell from Vass so I couldn't say.

SF member duesis could probably show some of the differences in brown etc, IIRC he had a rainbow of shell at one point.

I finally have some Whiskeys for Whiskey Wednesday. Thanks 14 oz for these ridiculously awesome bluchers.

Some of my actual whiskey in the background. ;)

Gorgeous! Very jealous that an E width works for you.

Not sure. Vass was never clear with me when I asked.

For example, my Vass shells are "antic cognac" which I assumed was Dark Cognac but looks very different from Dark Cognac and seems much more like Mahogany or #6, with a lot more red in it.

Vass' Cigar looks close to Alden's Cigar, but Horween has said unequivocally that Cigar and Ravello are exclusive to Alden (and recently). Perhaps the exclusivity does not extend to Europe, or there is a loophole, or perhaps the variation and similarity in colors makes Cigar and Dark Cognac so close that it's really not as easy to tell them apart.

Perhaps Vass is using whatever AE used for truffle/cappuccino. The mysteries will live on. The moral of the story is that Horween makes a lot of shell colors, but with all the variation within a color and the naming across brands, it becomes really hard to actually tell them apart. I just find it intriguing.

Couldn't Vass be finishing the hides on their end to get closer to Cigar?
