Freaky 80 degrees today in Seattle area.

Rainy days and signs of spring.

Questions about resoling. Is it possible to change out welt type? For example can a boot that came with a reverse welt be changed out to a flat welt? If so, does this require resoling, or can the welt just be changed? Do cobblers typically reuse the welt on the shoe are replace?

Thanks in advance!

There was a pretty extensive discussion on this in the relatively-recent past.  The net of it was: It depends.

My recollection was you could add a reverse welt but taking it away left an area at the bottom where the welt was that has aged/colored differently than the exposed areas of the shoes, so it generally isn't done.  There were some other things mentioned too...

Also, headed to NY soon, and am curious which shop will have the best selection. AoM, Leffot, etc. looking for some of the more distinct makeups. I have your standards...indy 405, ptb and lwb in color 8 and waxed, and a cap in cigar.

I've also heard that some shops might have items in store that they wouldn't advertise online. Is this true?

Thanks for the advice!

The Tankers were confirmed in October. Retailers don't advertise exotics online as per Alden policy and largely for their own sanity.

I am pretty sure it's actually more toward managing customer hopes and expectations. Exotic shell production is largely not limited by Alden. And advertising shoes they can't make don't particularly help their business. They can't really control owners obviously.

I think the shape of the Van last is a bit more versatile, and an infinitely nicer looking shape, than the TruBalance, and thankfully the Van has always fit me perfectly. If I could get the Michigan Boot in #8 or whiskey shell, I'd be replacing the Indy Boots in my collection. All that said, maybe I just like these for the same reasons I love my Ranger Mocs since these are basically the same thing in boot-form.

(Please excuse the sloppily rolled denim - I'm breaking in my first new pair of jeans in a few years and have yet to get them hemmed)

Looking good. Copy on the pants. Sometimes I like to wear them once or twice to get some stretch on before altering.

Most cobblers will put a storm on a flat, but not a flat on a storm. This is because the reverse welt on the storm will cause a funny looking color fade differential. The Welt is what attaches the sole to the shoe. I believe due to the complexity of the stitch, most cobblers would just replace the outsole. An example is I had a mod done to the welt on my boots and they ended up replacing the soles even though they weren't even worn yet.

Before all the Leffot Whiskey Tanker photos flood the forum.. There was the Whiskey WTB.

I was standing around this morning and realized an unfamiliar phenomenon was happening in Toronto! The sun was out. It is still super cold, but this photo at least FEELS warm!
