Just wanted to get some thoughts from the group on the 990 and/or anything else you think would be a good choice. This will be my first paid of Shell cordovan shoes.

I agree with others. 990 and 975 are your best bet. They can be worn biz casual, with a suit, and with jeans. The Barrie last with the storm welt does make them look big and a bit more casual, which detracts a bit from their suit-ability, but IMO I think they work great with just about anything.

I have been on the fence with this exact question. However, I have a black and brown cap toe oxfords for suit so its was more of a "how casual can they be" dilemma. However, Im going with the 990 considering I'm in jeans and chinos 90% of the time. Thanks for the indirect help, gents. Good luck @ns120780 !

How does the plaza last run compared to Barrie and Aberdeen?

Typically people recommend to go true to size (TTS) for Plaza and Aberdeen and half down from TTS for Barrie

Is anyone doing a snuff LWB on commando right now?

Henry, you are looking superb in your King WT Boots. Always a fantastic choice. It is always / never boot season in San Diego, so I just go year round.

The Navy Yard was lucky to have such fine footwear on it. They are looking good and a nice shade. I need to get mine going, however, I was planning to do Cigar CT Boot tomorrow since I wore LWBs today and I try to mix up the designs during the week... :-)

Those boots are looking good to me! Hard for my eyes to see in the tiny pic, but they look good regardless!

after further inspection, it seems like there was some creasing around the ankle area of the left boot that could've contributed (along with a scratch/abrasion on the toe of the right boot) to the boots being designated as seconds, but i ultimately decided to keep them and am thoroughly enjoying wearing them today. since this is my first experience with shell, i am eager to see how it breaks in and looking forward to developing some rolls.

Congrats on taking them out on their maiden voyage! They look pretty great to me for being seconds. Hope that they fit well and that they had a good first day! Happy Brushing!!!

Very nice! I am still awaiting my Choco Tankers and am having some trouble with UPS, but I will get it sorted out. The Blue Chamois are cool. Enjoy them both!

I don't see how you'd go wrong with the 990 PTB.  They are indeed a roomier (especially in width) shoe.  They are a great business casual shoe and fit the bill just right.  For something more dressy I assume an Aberdeen or Van Last shoe would be in order but that's not to say that you can say dress them with a suit.

Hard to disagree with Bantone here. The 990 is classic and pretty generic. Hard to go wrong.

The way they were described to me before i bought them was a "potted soil" color. They come across as a little more black than that. Great boots, though, very comfortable.

Pretty sure those would be the dark earth reverse chamois...hence the creative description you received wink.gif

Something a little different today:

Medallion captoe in tan calf from Moulded Shoe - modified last, 10EEE

Based on early reaction these may get more compliments than most of my shell. First Modified Last model for me, but certainly not the last.
