One last question please. I came across these Alden cordovan bluchers and for the life of me I cannot decide if it's No 8 burgundy or dark brown cordovan. Do the internal marking inside the Alden shoes give the official cordovan color?

Hope you won't mind helping me out.

Thanks once again!

Hah..you are welcome! You should spend some time reading through Mdubs' Alden of San Diego blog and you will find plenty of great info.

I agree sometimes it hard to distinguish No8(dark burgundy) and Cigar(dark brown), especially when both colors become significantly darker recently than before.

The color of the shoes can be revealed by the model number inside the shoes. Take the Longwing as an example, the model number of color 8 longwing is 975, cigar longwing is 97894, ravello longwing is 97504 etc.

Then you can do some research on the internet or send an enquiry email to Alden to know the true identity of the shoes.

Thank you, Steve.

The shell bluchers in question are extremely dark brown with some burgundy aspect at the heel (but not at the toe box). I am trying to pick up Cordovan cream to take care of these shoes and that's why I'm wondering about the official Horween color. I guess I'll have to write to Alden.

The internal markings are as follows:

Those are Color 8 (Dark Burgundy).

Thanks for the kind words, Gents. I actually can't take credit for the patina as these were purchased from the B&S forum. They were in need of a good cleaning so this is what they look like after some Venetian, deer bone, and Saphir cordovan creme.

A few questions

1) Where did you buy these laces?
2) What size laces are appropriate for Alden boots in general

Another question, for the board overall:

Which retailer will replace a waterlock sole with the Alden commando sole? Moulded Shoe? Any others?

Anyone recognize the model number? Trying to determine the last.

This one is a tricky last to identify, but from what I can remember, this wingtip is on the plaza last. (very similar to the BB wingtip bal)

Those are stunning! I'm usually not a TruBalance kind of guy but I would make an exception for a cigar or whiskey Indy.
Nice pants too.
