I always enjoy March Madness Mike!  (My team won, so I am quite pleased) Thanks for the nice words my friend!  BTW, I love the snuff wt boots.  I need to snag a pair, when the right price comes along! :smarmy:

They are about 3-4 years old.  They are 990 from Sherman Bros in Philly.  I believe I got them in their year-end Alden 25% off deal (which is no longer available over the phone).  Really like the shade but man are they red...  (unfortunately they fit quite well and are not for sale at the moment)

BTW, sweet NSTs DV!  Thanks bro...

Mike, you must have purchased your Brooks whiskey unlined loafers at the same time I did- August of 2010. That was the only run ever. Your shade looks great! They have developed a beautiful, rich tone. Mine are unworn and still look raw smile.gif

For those having experience with both, which one is softer?  I don't want to go too soft like Vibram or Crepe. Thanks.

In my experience, Commando is slightly softer and certainly has better traction. I would choose it in almost every instance.

Gentlemen,

I'm looking to buy my first pair of Alden Cordovan 975s and I came across these bluchers with model number marked as 2076. The other models I came across had 975 marked on it; so I'm just wondering about the difference between 975 and 2076...

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Aside from the difference in the last, the wingtip pattern of 975 and 2076 is totally different.

975 is a LONGwing (the wingtip pattern extend all the way to heel of the shoes) and 2076 is SHORTwing ( the wingtip pattern ends in the mid part of the shoes), see the photos below for comparison.

Thank you, Steve, for helping me out. Really appreciate it!

I take it that short wings are more formal than long wings?

Thanks once again!

You are welcome!

I would't say there is a huge difference in terms of formality, both shoes are considered full brogues. That said, you are safe to wear one another in the same outfit.

However, the 975 is on Barrie last and has a reverse welt (check this page for more info about welt), which make 975 a considerably bulkier shoes than 2076.

Thank you once again, Steve! Thanks to you I've learnt about reverse and flat welting. That settles the issue for me as I tend to stay away from bulky shoes. It would be 2076 for me.

One last question please. I came across these Alden cordovan bluchers and for the life of me I cannot decide if it's No 8 burgundy or dark brown cordovan. Do the internal marking inside the Alden shoes give the official cordovan color?

Hope you won't mind helping me out.

Thanks once again!
