BTW, in my email conversations with them, they implied that they weren't going to be stocking Aldens going forward (or, rather, that they wouldn't be dealing with Alden anymore, which is how I took that). Has that been confirmed?

Looking good in your Indy Boots. What you heard about JGilbert is correct. Yenni has taken on essentially their account and now has all their old inventory and designs in her pocket. An official E-mail went out yesterday from John Gilbert actually.

Ha! Actually the factory was very low on even Black and #8 about 8-12 months ago. Seems like things are more under control there now.

A great and unique use for your old LHSes. A fun way to give them life!

They put on a Vibram low profile lug half sole and matching heel. I'm very pleased and will certainly go back.

Very nice. Toppys are always a good way to extend the life of your soles. That's a great move for that boot for exactly your purpose.

I like that, "the actual grail in life", possibly the best description to relate to lol!!

Of course, the real question for this thread is, which Alden do you plan on wearing on that momentous day? nod[1].gif

For me it will be either my snuff suede LHS or snuff suede chukka boots. Both are extremely comfortable and go on and off very easily which is a must on those days where I might not make it home to change clothes for a while.

Congrats to you too! Your first?
I'm not sure what I'll be wearing but I know I'll remember it afterwards smile.gif

This will be daughter #2 for my wife and me. Our first was about five and a half years ago - right around the same time that I pre-ordered my Ravello "Brixton" boots from Epaulet... and I'm still waiting on them.

Solid advice!

I wore a beat up pair of Clark's to my son's birth. You never know when you'll get hit by....Er......shrapnel (gross).

But as both my kids were born in under 2 hours from labor to delivery (my wife is tough like that, south Asian genes and all), I didn't get to experience much of the "magic" of delivery room camping.

Anyways, congrats and good luck!!!!

My wife is South Asian too and she wasn't so lucky with our son! Can't even remember what shoes I wore but they definitely weren't Aldens!

Well, finally did it. Bought my first pair of Alden Whiskey. Made a reasonable offer to the 379x Whiskey Wingtip boot on eBay (after fees, it's a small, not-unreasonable markup on his part, compared to what he paid, not a gouge like you sometimes see). They are officially on their way to me now! The flaw (which wasn't clear in the listing) is some dark streaking on the side of the boots. They are on the inside, will be covered by my pants and based on how I wear my light colored shoes, will be covered up in stains anyway.

Pic he took of them: . Can't frickin' wait.

We will look back on this as a transitional time. Great to witness history as it happens. Even if it does come at unplanned bodily harm. At least Mike didn't lose an ear though.
