Big props to the customer service at Leffot....I actually ordered a pair yesterday at 30% off.....emailed them after seeing the post about the additional mark down and they said they would reduce to 50%.....amazing!

Alden X EP CXL Alt Weins

Love these, but a little buyer's remorse when looking at the shell versions. Don't think I can justify both

The "color" on Color 8 shoes is so critical. I bought a pair of 4060, but returned them because I felt they would overlap with my 4065 and because I had the opportunity to buy some Color 8 jumpers. The issue is that the Color 8 Jumpers are among the darkest Color 8 I have seen while the 4060 are a beautiful shade, similar to yours. It makes me consider swapping them out again (or going with another pair of Color 8 altogether).

#8 eventually lightens over time .. I've worn color #8 for decades. Nobody here wants to admit this but all shell inherently wants to go back to its greyish beginnings..

I recall, someone eloquently summing it up as: "Eventually it all turns brown"

Never been a huge fan of split-toes, but those are ridiculously beautiful.

I've had the 975 #8 longwings for maybe 5 years. Out of the box they were nearly black. Now they are an intense eggplant color. And another amazing thing is that they seem to be fitting better. I suppose it's partly that they are still breaking in. The cordovan leather is stiff, and I'm only wearing them half the year (when it's cooler), and then I'm rotating them with other pairs, so maybe I'm only wearing them 10 times per year. But it's such a classic, one of my favorite shoes. I just bought this belt from Epaulet as I don't think it's necessary to get a cordovan leather belts, as long as the color is close.

Here is a color comparison of the vintage 990 PTB with the 2 year old PCTs from J Crew and the newest run of Leffot's tanker. I think it's evident that Alden didn't do the eggplant color dye back in the day.

Also, interestingly enough, vintage color 8 shell Aldens had color matching aglets.
