I told myself I would stop after the last pair but these were on sale.  What was I supposed to do?

Just when I think I'm done they keep pulling me back in...

Snuff suede "Conservation Boot" from LeatherSoul.

I forgot how comfy the wedge sole is.

^Awesome. I'm eager for the brown CXL version to come in, which'll be my first casual/non-shell Alden purchase in over a year.

You will not be disappointed. I had the CXL version from their original release a few years ago. After amassing too many boots and shoes, they stopped getting worn and were one of the first pair of Alden that I sold on here and have regretted it ever since. Every time a picture of somebody's pops up now on Instagram or here I feel the pain. And then of course I missed out on the pre-order this time around. I'm hoping that they'll have one available for me anyway...

^ Awesome deal! If I didn't have a snuff suede Alt Wien, I'd be all over these.

It has v-cleat heels and lots of nails.

So many nails:

It has a slightly different logo on the heel pad as well:

The only issue so far is the eyelets. The metal appeared to have some sort of coating on them which has corroded over time.

I scraped off as much as I could, but it's between the lining and shell, so I think I might take them to a cobbler to be replaced.

I don't want to fall and break a hip, nor do I want to scrape up my wooden floors, so I'll probably be having the metal V clean removed and replaced with something: possibly just a wedge of leather/rubber. I don't really want to replace the entire heel lift. I think I'll try them out first, though, just to see what they're like.

I've conditioned then inside and out with Lexol. Once last night and again this morning. I do not want to risk this old shell cracking under pressure.

The date stamp tells us that it was made in a year ending in 8, and I got a response from Alden saying they discontinued the use of the metal cleat in the stock offerings by the 70s, though retailers could request them in a makeup through the mid 90s. So this could be from 68 or older, or possible later via special makeup.

The tongue is also not shell. It appears to be calf, so that could be another indication of the age.

These PTBs are truly beautiful, thanks for sharing. Their older construction is superb.

Thanks Mike! These are probably my best looking color 8s of the three I have. The other two are much darker and will probably take a good bit of time to lighten.

I actually own the natural cxl pair (that I bought used) so I'm hoping the brown cxl pair is different enough (with the brown eyelets, etc.)
