Now I wish I got the Cititanker boot

Wow, those look awesome. Need to think about getting other leathers besides shell in the NST makeup!

Pretty darn nice beater. Good choice.. I like the simplicity of black shell.

See if your CC company has a price match/rewind benefit. Virtually all of my cards do, and that lets me order shoes from stores that do have my size in stock, and price match it to stores that don't. I successfully did this last year for a pair of AE Daltons in oxblood when Nordstroms had the walnut model on sale (Nordstroms also doesn't carry my size).

Edit: I forgot to mention if you have an AMEX to check your offers. One of mine is $40 in statement credit when you spend $200 at Ben Silver. Brings their Alden prices down a bit.

Update: Price match requests approved! I used my Discover card this time.

Any tips on dating a shoe based upon the inside writing?

I suggest when dating a shoe you first try to get to know it a bit. You know, discover it's likes and dislikes. Do things the shoe likes to do. I'd suggest staying away from age questions. Some people may like a shoe with some wrinkles or creases on it- just means it's an experienced shoe!

It also has a v-cleat heel. Any idea when Alden stopped using those? It also has an older logo in the heel pad. I can post pictures later tonight.

The snow is melting and these performed pretty well in the muck in the parking lot, though could use a good wipe down a brush when I get home tonight. I think these are my rolliest pair of cordovan shoes.

Those are 1988 or older, based on the information given. The 8 at the start of the production code indicates the year (ending in 8). Since I know Alden no longer used v-cleat heels in 1998, these have to be from 1988, 1978, or 1968, etc.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

It's a tough crowd but your material is excellent...

Gents, as promised - pictures of the AF2 Mahogany Shell wingtips. They arrived a little while ago, and I'm enjoying them immensely. Note how faded the box is...

Hey William, welcome to the non-lurking side! I lurked for a long time first also. Your Suede PCTs are looking great. I agree that Alden does a fantastic job with their suede. I was really reluctant to pay the Alden up charge for suede versus AE, but once I got one pair, it was over.

Your Tankers are looking good. Give them a good scrub and then repost, would love to see how they look cleaned up. :-)
Hah. Life is sometimes full of regrets. But this shouldn't be one. The CitiTanker is great, but yours is superb as well. Enjoy it.

Especially since suede is your most worn pair! You have worn those suede LHS out
