These were in pretty rough shape, so I gave them a nice round of TLC this weekend. New boot laces, fresh edge dressing, and a thorough cleaning (damp cloth, wet brushing, Bick 4, brushing, VSC, buffing). Very happy with how they cleaned up.

While flipping may cause issues at the very margins, the supply of Alden's "rare" colors of shell and special make ups is relatively limited. In my opinion, there will be plenty of unhappy people and retailers who appreciate Aldens who are unable to get them because of the limited supply. Flippers have little to do with it.

I have sold shoes I no longer wanted both new and old. The way pre-ordering works, there is a perverse incentive to join multiple lists for shoes you may (or may not want), if only to preserve the option of delivery/ keeping them. Prices for Ravello and color 4 have gone so high that I liquidated the bulk of my collection in these colors, and honestly, I see that as kind of flipping trade. Would I have done this if resale prices were at or below new shoe cost? Nope.

I mention all of this because while flipping irks me too, in a way, I do not find it morally questionable. It is a feature of the Alden game, markets, capitalism, and this shell cordovan obsession-bubble.

I try and stay out of these types of things in general, but wanted to chime a few things in. I understand Steve's frustrations, truly, especially since I know he actually wanted these shoes, since I probably talked him into them. And I know Smooth's points. I am not a fan of flipping shoes at all, however, Smooth has several good points in there. Frankly, if I wanted to, I could probably buy half of the exotic Alden's produced and just flip them, but I chose not to do that due to my personal ethics, not to mention time required. However, one thing that I want to point out is that we do not know the intent of the buyer, I do not know if he bought them with the intent of just flipping them or if he genuinely wanted them and then passed when he saw them, due to fit, or something else.

I love this makeup.  Are they on the barrie last and if so is this something that AOM does on a regular basis?

Or as regular as cigar gets.  I'm interested as cigar is my fav and the dc makeup on the grant last doesn't work

well for my foot.

Lovely boots sir!  I may be partial as I own a pair myself.

I don't see this makeup often so I had to give it some love.

Splendid NST-ensemble Mike!

You are awfully kind giving the "Alden-flipper" the benefit of the doubt as far as possible intent.  The fact that some of these flippers turn around and sell immediately after receiving and make a 100% or more profit, makes me believe the intent from the very beginning is to flip for big profit.  I do understand that this is the US, and a free market avails itself to opportunities.  If you're willing to put in the time, money, and effort, I suppose there is nothing "unethical" about the process.

I really do like the point made by someone earlier about "community" and how we as members should support (enable :embar:) each other when possible.  I certainly have valued that in this thread for several years now.

I just accepted a job offer, so I think some burnished tan wingtips are in line :nodding:

These are very nice Mike!  You nailed the pant, sock, shoe combo but I expect nothing less from you.

Is it strange that black shell is becoming my favorite shell color?

Weeks like this show why a cordovan dress boot on commando (wingtip on barrie, for example) or a dress blucher on commando (ptb or longwing) are really essentially if you live in a northeastern city. I one but sold it, and now I am regretting it, I will invest in one soon.

+1. I didn't think I would want one, but now I have several (Cigar plain toe boot on commando, Ravello cap toe boot on commando, #8 NST boot on commando) and cannot imagine winter without them.

I'm sure you experienced it Alci - one day into the cleanup and the slush puddles at the street corners were 3 - 4 inches deep!
