Also picked up a pair from the seconds list....unfortunately, no socks to steal the show on my end ;)

I don't believe I'll never understand Alden seconds; I've certainly happily purchased "firsts" that looked worse

I was hoping to resole commando soles instead of double leather. But Alden Restoration seems to be only willing to resole double leather soles with double leather soles.

Who can do a similar Alden commando sole?

My recommendation is that you find a good cobbler or boot repair shop to do the job. I have resoled five Alden Indy boots with Commando soles. Three in Tucson, Arizona, and two in Syracuse, New York. It was not hard to find cobblers that would do this kind of work. George

I am one of those weird ones who's not crazy about Indy boots nor NSTs but as the saying goes, your boots have changed my mind. Yes, those socks are amazing but I'd like to know what the leather is. That's not natural CXL, is it? Looks almost like a tan calf.

Your post conveys a level of tranquility that I would not have at this moment. Kudos to you sir.

Happy New Year 2016 to everyone. I arrived in Africa for my next work rotation with the Epaulet Alden Indy Innsbruck Chromexcel boots last week. As I have other editions of Alden Indy boots and have used them for the last 6 years in my work in Africa, I knew these boots were perfect for taming the equatorial hot humid weather of west Africa, the thin khaki soil, and the Sahara Harmattan winds. But, these Epaulet edition have something very unique - the Chromexcel color of this batch is very close to the original "The Hero" edition boots used by Harrison Ford for the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I have other Alden Indy Chromexcel boots but the color is very different and by that I mean great. I highly recommend this edition boots to everyone. Congratulations Epaulet for a job well done! George

Those Indys look like the perfect pair of boots for Africa! If you don't mind me asking, what line of work are you in?

I do not mind at all! I am an international lawyer supporting the United Nations and the US in training African troops for United Nations peacekeeping missions in Africa. I train them in areas such as international law, human rights, international humanitarian law (i.e., Geneva Conventions), and peacekeeping legal issues. My classroom is under a mango tree, no air conditioners, and usually no seats other than the African khaki ground. This is where great boots, such as Alden Indy boots, makes a big difference in comfort and suitability. George

Murphy's law.

I always take my more valuable shoes in my carry-on, or I wear them. I only check them if they're like, easily replaced (non-shell, basically).

Love these and a version on commando has been on my list for a while. Would have settled on the flex sole had a pair popped up on the seconds list. Congrats on the purchase!
