THE EUROPEAN THRIFT BUY /SELL / TRADE / WANT THREAD - Page 4

Looking for spring-summer jackets in 40R & selling (though already on eBay) Zegna solid grey suit and midnight navy jacket, Canali wool/linen and wool/silk jackets, plus a Corneliani tie and a cheap unstructured jacket here.

Also general advice on picking versatile summer jackets would be welcomed: I've got a dove grey unstructured cotton jacket which is great for completely casual occasions but I don't think it's ideal for work even in business casual.

Those Canalis are beautiful.

Thanks, I really like them both, but I have had to accept that the tan linen is really too big for me, and the wool/silk too short, after trying to kid myself for a while. Great brand though.

Would the tan one fit a 40R? I've found 3 canali jackets in charity shops and they're all huge. Heartbreaking.

@Purplelabel It might if you're a little bit taller than me --- I'm a pretty standard 40R in Britain, and a 50R in Zegna works for me, but I'm just in between EU 48 and 50 in Canali, annoyingly; the 50Rs tend to be an inch too long for me. On the other hand I think Dirnelli remarked that you can tell how good the fit is on those Italian tailors because you can wear a size either way and somehow it works. I would if not for the length issue.

Anyway, happy to make some measurements if you like.

Please do! I want an Italian linen jacket for the Summer.

I'm 5 ft 10/11.

Sure. Can do this evening.

It depends on the age of the suit/jacket too. I am a 41 so wear either 40 or 42 and have a 42 Canali suit and the jacket fits me well, it's about 10 years old by the generous cut of the trousers (they'll need some narrowing)

Re. The summer jackets, if you are after something to keep you cool, but still with some structure, look for half lined jackets, so they still have some canvassing in the front and probably a wool blend if you want something higher on the formality scale.

It's a completely different thing now buying jackets which have different drops, cuts and linings.

Are the generous trousers pleated?

What brands do you reccommend that has a modern, but classic cut which are half lined and linen? smile.gif

Flat fronted, and fairly slim over the hips, it's only from the thighs down that they are too full, so ideal for narrowing down - I have skinny legs so slim trousers suit me, and a good, trustworthy local tailor.

If I was buying a linen jacket, and feeling a little flush, I'd be getting this https://www.drakes.com/single-breasted-tobacco-linen-jacket unlined half canvassed jacket, I believe they are made by Belvest, so perhaps look for brands made by them.

A couple of items, if anyone's interested - would be fairly cheap, a Calvin Klein jacket in black, size 42, and a few ladies tops and a dress, all size 8, Prada, Monsoon, Zara and Red Herring.

@Purplelabel Tan linen/wool is 31" down the back, excluding collar; 21.5" P2P; 18.5" across shoulders.

@Quesjac could you list shoulder, jacket length and trouser inseam for the Zegna grey suit? I'm very interested.

Typical, half an inch too big on the shoulders and p2p. Looks like the search continues...

Thanks anyway my man.

No worries. Let me know if you find a stash of summer jackets somewhere, sounds like we're the same size...
