About a year ago, I visited Florence and, thanks to reading about him here, decided to visit Roberto Ugolini's shop. He is a lovely man. His prices are more than reasonable. I said to my wife that the problem was that if I ordered a pair, we would have to come back to Florence for a fitting. She said, "and the problem with that is?" Therefore, I got measured and ordered a pair of shoes. I selected a dark brown dress casual derby/blucher for my first pair. I did not got with the "U last" nor the "round last" but his other last that he called his "first" last (first one he designed). Here are some pics. What surprised me most is that my shoe size in custom is about 1.5 sizes smaller than the shoes I had been buying off the rack. After the initial surprise, the reason became obvious to me. I cannot wait to get them broken in. I already have a couple more pairs on order. The only dow

nside (for my pocket book) is that my wife has now ordered a pair so we will, once again, have to return to Florence....;)

Last pics are in comparison to a pair of Gaziano and Girlings I have that are the closest thing to Roberto's shoe. Note the size difference. Price is roughly the same.

Very beautiful. Although they don't look so refined and sleek as your GG if they fit better the goal has been achieved.

Congrats. Wear them in good health. I wanted to order a pair but didn't know when I would make it back to Florence for the fitting

Id be interested to see a side-by-side shot with the Vass U last as he designed (or at least inspired) that last.

Last time we were in Florence, we stayed in the square that his little shop is in. By the time I decided to visit it properly, it was shut (being Sunday) and leaving the next day. Kind of regret not visiting still.

Last time I went to florence, I only checked Bemer's shop which was closed at the time, and I forgot to check up ugolini's shop because we have a rather hurried schedule, what a shame!

I will try to remember to upload more pics. Check my posts also as in the "Hardcore" bespoke only thread I posted pics of my second pair. Prices are subject to change, of course, but he was charging 1500 euros for the first pair and 1200 for each subsequent pair on the same last. Price is higher for she'll cordovan and, of course, for exotic leathers. I think add 100 for boots.

I cannot say how his shoes compare to Bemer, tho Bemer himself has passed away. Roberto is a lovely man with which to work and should you be in Florence, he is definitely worth a visit. I now have four pairs of his shoes with a 5th and 6th on order and my wife is getting a pair of boots soon so that should tell you what I think of him. The fit has been outstanding tho he feels that a shoe should be just ever so slightly too tight to start so a bit of break in is needed. The shoes on this old thread are now very comfortable, for what it is worth.

Does anybody have roberto ugolinis contact info? I'd like to contact him for a bespoke order!

His site doesn't seem to be manageable.
